How to Add Subtitles in VLC

VLC’s initial claim to fame was the out-of-the-box support of a wide variety of video codecs and formats. This beloved free and open source app has since grown over the years to become the swiss army knife of media players. If you need to enable or add subtitles to a video you’re watching, here’s how to get it done!

Some people actually want to write their own subtitles, like me. I found sources online that told me I should do it in Notepad, convert to .srt and use first a "1", then hit enter and then type timestamps like 00:00:00, 00 -> 00:00:00, 10, and then hit enter and write the subtitle, while the comma is for milliseconds, I tried all kinds of variations, but all VLC gives me are incomplete timestamps and no subtitles. I'm totally frustrated.

its not working...when i add the subtitle the video suddenly go black and not working anymore...is this the VLC player problem itself? or any update?

i downloaded subs from vlc but there is a sync error with subs and speech, i tried delaying subs but it just not work out, pls help
