You missed a big one. Old tanks make decent artillery pieces and pill boxes. And they take different shells, shells they have a gazillion of in storage.

T55s werent pulled out of warehouses. They were left in open fields in the elements. Which is why the west knew how many the had in storage, satelite images showed several depots. Except they cant even use half of the T55s in inventory because theyve been neglected for over 30 years or more.

"Quantity is quality in itself" -Stalin
It was more true back then, but now the force multipliers of new weapons is so significant that quantity requirements are too high for that strategy to even have hope of being effective.

I think the intention of using the T55 is to cover Russia's artillery battery shortage as they are running out of conventional batteries using something like a T55 in the current conflict as a conventional main battle tank is suicide

Being a soldier in the Russian army, must be the most depressing thing in the world right now

"As of yet, no World War Three tanks can be confirmed to be included in the ranks of..." I must have missed that war in my history lessons.

Take any upgrades out of the loop. You've still got tanks that have been essentially sitting for 40 plus years, outdoors. Even stored under ideal conditions every single bearing is probably dry and seized.

No old tanks would not be easier to learn. They would be much much harder. Old tanks have manual transmissions. I learned to drive on a manual, and I highly doubt I could work a T55/54 without a lot of practice. Compared to a modern tank with an automatic transmission. Modern tanks have ballistic computers to calculate all the parameters to make an accurate shot. Just point and shoot. Old tanks rely on the mark one eyeball for guesstimating range.

They're basically using them like Stug assault guns. Stugs in WW2 cant fight tanks head on but are perfect in infantry support or to bolster defensive positions with more firepower. The T55 is perfect for this role, it is mobile, robust, the 100mm gun is still a formidable weapon against non mbt targets and it is much better protected against artillery fire than an ifv or spg.

Most of the tanks are used as artillery pieces which makes sense

Russia has a lot of 100m and 105m shells lying around

It's been more than 1 month since this video and there has been literally little changes on the frontline

It's not about the weapon

It's how you use it

Good news for the defenders is because these are much older tanks, older anti-armor munitions will be effective against them so NATO can probably look into the old stockpiles to hand over to Ukraine

You forgot the part where the t54/55 also had a secondary role of intermediate ranged artillery.

T-55 is in fact a good tank for the time. I suspect they are being used as stand-ins while T-72s are repaired. It is also probably being used as a mobile artillery platform because of the large amount of HE ammo Russia has acquired from its allies. It is Russian Artillery which will remain the biggest problem for Ukraine.

These tanks are not old, they're vintage

Hey Infographics, love the channel. Been watching for years. And while I do enjoy all the russian-ukranian content, I gotta say I do miss hearing about other topics. Still watching these though!

The more sinister fact is that T55 will be the only still working tank after the use of strategic nuclear strike. It is all mechanical if electrics fail, and still usable. All modern tanks may stop working after EMP. Now someone may say that modern tanks are protected against the EMP, but if actually not in a real scenario, the T55 being the only working tank of the battlefield, and shielded against radiation, would be a big deal. Same with the T54, but it has no protection against radiation. But it would still work. With a crew with couple of days to live, max....

True, but at the same time an old tank is still a dangerous weapon for infantry. Even stationary, they will help in the defensive lines.

You ladies and gentleman are amazing with your non-bias reporting! One complaint I have is sound…? Many video sound are very distorted for the first several minutes then seem to get better. Anyway thanks!
