Ohio train derailment: East Palestine residents advised to drink bottled water

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and state officials provided an update on the East Palestine train derailment at a press conference on Tuesday.

The briefing came nearly a week after an evacuation order was lifted and residents within a mile of the crash were permitted to return to their homes. Residents remain concerned about safety and odors from potentially toxic chemicals like vinyl chloride remain in the air, but Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff says air quality levels remain normal.

"People should be confident that multiple agencies — both at the state and national level — are very serious about this, are watching very closely, are not allowing any wiggle room when it comes to safety," Vanderhoff told reporters.

While authorities say the risk to public drinking water remains very low, Vanderhoff did suggest those in East Palestine and along the east part of the Ohio River drink bottled water in the short term. DeWine concurred, but did say he would feel comfortable going back home if he lived in East Palestine.

Do NOT sign any liability waivers against Norfolk Southern or any other parties responsible for this horrific chemical disaster.
Hearing reports of people being pressured to sign.
DONT DO IT!
Please help get the word out so these victims can get justice one day

These chemicals have seeped into the ground. Its only a matter of time before the chemicals are also drained from the ground around the city to the Ohio River. This has the possibility of effecting over 30 million people. For the people in that town, if you feel your eyes watering, or a tinkle in your throat, its probably not safe to be there. This has the chance to have lasting effects.

Sign NOTHING until the lawyers have their go. This is the worst environmental disaster in Ohio in many years. Nothing is safe.

I have hauled chemicals for 34 yrs and it doesn't matter how many laws or regulations are passed by people in office that doesn't know chit except what they are told in hearings by so called experts. For one thing trains are stacked wrong as in this case. Only certain chemicals should be hooked up tank rail car to tank rail car to keep this type of accident from happening. They also should limit the tank rail cars that are Hazmat to a limited number per journey and ship by truck if needed by consignee immediately. This keeps big disasters down like East Palestine from happening. One tank truck can be dangerous but not to these extents. Laws and regulations end up being fines that are never given to the public, just more ways to accumulate money to be wasted by the government. Math and common sense can fix these issues not elected idiots.

I've been told that most residents have already been approached by NS to sign papers and take a few months rent. DON'T DO IT. You will receive million$ per person if you hold out.

Do they know how long the chemicals were airborne when they set it on fire? How far it travels and what other communities are now affected.

What toxic chemicals were spilled?
How do these specific chemicals effect humans and wildlife?
Do the chemicals have effects on the soil, water, and air?
What is veing done to protect the people of the toxic area?
How / why did the train derailment happen?
Who is being held accountable?
These are the questions we want answers to.

Where those seemingly concerned with environmental issues? No outcry. Fish and other animals dying, people complain of watery eyes, dysentery, headaches, etc. WHY?

Chickens and foxes have also died its not just the fish in the water ways.

"Advised???" t
Uh, yes . **Deadly poison, pouring into your water supply**, is a logical reason to buy bottled water.
I just cannot process the delay and the apathy. It's staggering.
