They weren’t trying to find a quicker route. His hat fell off while riding so he decided it was a good idea to go and get it back. What is sad is that the girl who hit him broke her leg in addition to having just killed a guy by accident. She wasn’t the one who did the stupid thing but she payed the price as well

This was in 2008. The coaster in question was Six Flags Over Georgia's Batman The Ride, a 1997 Bolliger and Mabillard inverted coaster. The two teens weren't trying to get across the park faster. They were trying to retrieve a loose article one of them lost on the ride.

I was there in line to ride Batman when it happened. We heard a noise and then some shouting, but it didn’t seem like much. Right after that ride closed. We were leaving after the ride closed and there were people all over the place where it happened. Couldn’t see much but freaking crazy. Story I heard was he went in to get his hat back because it fell during the ride.

I can’t imagine what his friend was going through at that point his best friend haed serve off must had him have a lot of trauma PTSD for the rest of his life and I hope he’s doing OK. May God bless him
