One thing, you can't view hdr videos from youtube or any video streaming in firefox, this was a huge confusion to me at first when i got an hdr screen and it just looked really bad when i tried watching hdr videos on youtube just to test it out, i didn't realize i was just watching the sdr version, thought it would switch automatically. You have to get an alternative browser that is based on chromium, those browsers can display hdr content and then you have to specifically select the hdr version of the video in the youtube quality settings for that video (and first you have to have hdr on of course.

The Nvidia YT video was not uploaded in HDR.
I have HDR enabled in windows and an OLED.

They probably did this with the intention of using testing the feature ON the video itself.

I think it works when filming the screen because of the Auto-Exposure of the Camera.

Streaming services are drooling right now. Bet they can't wait until they can reduce bitrates even more and just let everyone upscale the blocky mess to something barely acceptable.

That's alongside Super Resolution in NVIDIA Control Panel. The usage is at 95% full time, but, it does look great

It would be amazing to be able to convert video files into HDR instead of just live video, this is the best upscaler I've seen and it work in real time ! imagine what it could do with more processing time per frames

The rule of thumb. If Linus thinks something.ething is "really cool", it deserves its own video.

I would assume the camera trick has something to do with the limitations of cameras versus the human eye. I would think because of the dynamic range limitations, the camera wouldn't be able to keep both of them in viewable range, so it probably adjusts for the brights of the HDR and then the SDR gets pushed way down in comparison. Our eyes, if we were seeing it in person, not only have more dynamic range, but also do a much better job of trying to equal out the two images when they have reasonable brightness.

I would love to see a video testing this feature. I am very surprised that almost nobody is doing any tests on the accuracy of the RTX HDR feature at least in the youtube tech world.

well, if you film 2 screen with the same camera, you get the difference, it is the same camera. if you just play the video from a browser, the SDR one always look unrealistically grey and no screen looks like that and the HDR one looks normal on a SDR screen usually... but filming both screen side by side in their intended purpose, the same camera will show the actual difference.

These days, features win the sales war. Even if AMD is ahead in both raster and ray-traced, if they still don't have the kinda features an Nvidia card has, it's gonna be a tough sell.

Because the important thing about SDR vs HDR is "brightness".
Often the marketing material, both pictures and videos, are marketing HDR has more "color" which is not completely correct (wider color garment is just one of the aspect, but not everything).
With SDR camera filming 2 monitors, one showing SDR and other showing HDR, by adjusting the camera to film higher brightness of the HDR one, you will be able to see the difference since the SDR one will be dimmer.

However, I think not everyone prefer HDR over SDR, especially one that prefer using their display with lower brightness.
