Problem with Sola Scriptura

The Bible is Big 💪

But it was never meant to answer every single question.

God left us the Catholic Church so that we could be guided throughout the centuries to make decisions.

He never intended for it be “Bible Alone” - where does the Bible ever say that? If Jesus intended for all Christians to just own a Bible and read it for themselves, why did he establish the 12 apostles and give them authority?

We then dont do that ❤
The idea should be surrendered to the word of God

There is nothing we can experience in this life that is not addressed by the Word of God. Every answer for life is in there. No exceptions. If it is not names specifically the precept is in there.

So if the Bible doesn't teach something, what do I do? I consider whatever it is to be extraneous and unnecessary in my relationship with God. Why? Because the Bible teaches that the scripture is sufficient, and if I can't find a clear answer in God's Word, then whatever answer I find, anywhere else, is not God's Word, but a doctrine of demons.

"All Scripture is inspired by God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16, 17

Acts 8:30-31

30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

Use discernment from the Holy Spirit through prayer. Only the bible is the word of the Lord. Nothing else.

This is answered in The Bible many many areas. James said ask of God who gives wisdom and doesn’t chastise you for asking….and again that The Holy Spirit would bring you into understanding concerning all things…The Holy Spirit who will lead you into ALL truth. John 1:32-34 As John The Baptist said: “this is He who baptizes in The Holy Spirit.
In short you grow your relationship with Jesus who IS the Word.

Jesus’ apostle wrote that it was impossible to write everything Jesus said or did. Jn 20:30-31, 21:25

Hello

I think the idea is scripture has more authority than tradition

It’s the scripture

So for example

The Pharisees go around teaching the idea of corban

We don’t say “well they say the have unbroken succession back to Moses so they are right!”

We measure that practice against scripture

Jesus rebuked that practice because it contradicts scripture

I think the problem is putting “tradition” on the same level as scripture

What Catholics seem to do is say they can trace their authority back to Peter, and since they think they are a succession of that authority, then what is taught from that seat of authority is truth

The problem is that’s the same thing the Pharisees did
They sat on the seat of Moses
They were supposed to be successors of Moses so their tradition would be true

But what did Jesus say about their tradition??

And why did he say it was wrong and how did he conclude it?

Compared it to scripture

If you teach tradition on the same authority level as scripture and it’s not founded in scripture and contradicts it then it’s wrong

So saying “we are successors of Peter” doesn’t make your tradition true, let alone the same level as scripture

Because it’s the same thing the Pharisees did

“We are successors of Moses therefore our tradition is true and authoritative”

Now insert Peter for Moses and that’s basically the Catholic argument

I don’t think it works

Colossians 2:8 (KJV) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

I came from a protestant church that taught that.

That's not Sola Scriptura. That's Nuda Scriptura (Bare Scripture). Sola Scriptura means that Scripture Alone is infallible. Meaning all supreme authority for doctrine must come from Scripture.

Then in accordance with what the Bible teaches, we allow the Holy Spirit guide us.

Sola Scriptura is also self-refuting and is actually anti-biblical. It’s a novelty introduced along with all the rest of the prot heresies.

😂 Yeah, this is a shallow understanding of solo scriptura

Um, question. If we’re supposed to rely on the Magisterium when the Bible doesn’t address something, where is their answer coming from?

What exactly do you want me to believe which is not taught in the Scriptures?
