How To Be A Better Mechanic. An Old Timer Taught Me This.

Many Many years ago my old shop teacher said to us... "If you are going to amount to anything is this trade, You are going to need to have this skill"

This skill comes in very handy from time to time.
What is it you ask?

As somebody else mentioned here in the comments, I was always taught that the most valuable tool I possess is between my ears but I’m gonna agree with you - doing any kind of job without hands would be pretty tough even for the smartest bloke.

Now reach into an awkward position behind a dashboard with your back bent over a gear stick and thread that bolt through a flat washer, three pieces of floating sheet metal and plastic, slip on a star washer and thread that nut all with one hand. Haha 😝👌🏻

I had a teacher said it was your brain anyone can put a wrench in their hand but it’s knowing which bolt to turn is what’s important. FYI he was X army he was missing the two fingers, pinky and ring finger, and his other two fingers, index and middle, have been fused together. He did still have his thumb and he is, or maybe was considering his age and mine, one the best damn mechanics I’ve ever seen.
