Ancient Egyptians used to call the crescent "the Sun shining at night", and it was depicted with the lunar god Khonsu.
Egyptian myths narrate that when Khonsu caused the crescent moon to shine, women conceived, cattle became fertile, and all nostrils and every throat was filled with fresh air.
So, the Crescent was the Symbol of the lunar power of the moon, and the Birth cycle.
Egyptians used it as an amulet to bring good fortune to the mothers and their children. it was an Egyptian symbol for the family.
