The primary reason for strings sounding bad is rust. The second reason is an accumulation of dirt and dead skin. The third reason is dents on the bottom of the strings from the frets.

These issues lead to false beats and bad intonation.

I use Elixir strings, so the first two issues are irrelevant. They don't rust, and you can wipe the grime off them after you play.

Depending on how much you play, you can go months without changing them. The gradual loss of high-end is so hard to detect, you only hear it when you change into new strings.

If you have stainless steel frets, you will always have a brighter sound. 😊

Simply change them as often as you want.

Ernie Balls are terrible for rust. They don't last long. I just opened a pack and they were already rusty.
