Well I’m still using my Mizuno mx 950 and it’s been with me for about 10 years now and still worked like the day I bought it ;)

I have used the same "Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge" irons and wedge (about 56 years old) for the past year, a week ago I upgraded to some Callaway x22 irons and a King Cobra Driver...my game has improved a lot, but I still use my Sam Snead 3 iron...

Going on 10 years with my Mizuno MX-23'S myself and I have no desire to change them out. I give the heads and grips a good bath after every round and also have a good bag so there is no bag chatter keeping them in excellent shape. I have re-gripped them more than 20 times though.

fitted for Mizuno MP60 about 6 years ago. After that I did have a year out from golf but no desire to change clubs. I use neoprene head covers and I still have original grips which are not worn at all. I had my driver re-gripped this year which I bought at the same time. H/C 8 playing once a week.

Go with a set of used game improvement irons. Generally you will want something with a cavity, thicker sole and top line. It inspires confidence looking down at the ball and it will improve forgiveness on off center strikes. Ping G series, Adams A7OS, TaylorMade Burner 2.0's, Wilson Staff Di11 would be good places to start looking.

Yes you will get more feedback from blades than cavity backs on good and bad hits. The rest of your questions can only be answered by how talented you are. Best way is to try. I picked up a set of mizuno mp32's for just £95 a couple of years ago. Used them for a season and a half then sold (for £120!) and got fitted for a cavity(3-6) and blade(7-P) combo. Only problem is I wish I'd gone for the 5 and 6 as a blade too!!

I had a set of the original Adams Idea A1 Hybrid irons in my bag for 8 years. They had graphite shafts in them and the paint had worn completely off. I finally traded them for another set which I have since had 2 more sets of different brands and models. I wish I still had those old Adams irons. God only knows how many rounds of golf I played with them during that time, and how many thousands upon thousands of range balls I hit. Other drivers, fairway woods and wedges came and went during that time but the irons stayed constant. As did the original Odyssey 2 ball putter that I still have in the bag.

Still have my Mizuno MP-67 forged muscle backs which I bought brand new back around 2007ish. They're still in great shape but I may make some tweaks to those clubs so they still perform with the best new clubs of today. I however did replace my steel shafted Titleist 904f fairway wood with a graphite shafted Titleist 913fd fairway wood. I feel like that particular change was very necessary.

Been using the same Taylormade RAC OS irons for 12 seasons. Regripped once and clean the grooves religiously. However, I have changed drivers 4 times.

Go to a golf store and they can actually tell you what kind of shaft your irons need to be. I had the same set of irons since I was about 10, I'm 19 now, essentially the clubs were to light. I went in to the golf store and they had me set up with a different kind of shaft in the iron and it made a hell of a difference in my distance.

What would be the best irons set for a beginner? I've just got back into it and want to get an affordable set to help me along. New or used.

I don't change my irons until they're worn out and I play a lot of golf and I've never worn one out. I still have a mp57 3 and 4 iron along with mp37 5-pw and they still do the job. however I do find my drivers in particular need changed every few years.
