The meaning of life is simple and can be summed up in one word.
Maintenance.
We maintain our vehicle so we can go to work.
We go to work to maintain our and our families lifestyle.
We maintain our friendships to maintain the quality of our life.
Etc.

That's begging the question.
We ask "meaning" when we mean "purpose". The question is a 2 parter: what is my purpose and what is our purpose? Then the answer becomes self evident and simple, the purpose of life is to pursue purpose. Maybe you find out your purpose is family, humanity, personal achievement, scientific discovery, faith, something else or some combination, then that informs what you think our purpose is. The question is fairly easy when worded correctly.

I quit asking “What is the meaning of life?” It was one I couldn’t answer. So, instead, I started asking, “ What does Life mean to ME?” I feel that is a much better question to ask. I am able to put answers to that question.

The meaning of life is to serve others.
We have created a world around us where serving the self is priority. Where would this lead if not selfishness, greed, anger, hate, conflict, war, destruction and DEATH. We see this everyday. Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

But what would happen if we served others instead? Where would this lead to if not altruism, generosity, understanding, acceptance, harmony, stability, balance, peace, love and LIFE!
Enter through the narrow gate. Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
As ye sow, so shall ye reap. If we sow destruction then destruction we shall reap for ourselves. That is the universal law.
In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. Serve others, help others without expecting anything in return and this you shall reap for yourself.
This is the meaning of LIFE for it leads to LIFE.

When I was still a school student in Ukraine, we had a subject called Ethics and I remember our teacher asking us what roles we have in our lives during our first lesson. Human being, girl, daughter, sister, granddaughter, citizen, student and so on. So yeah, we all have a lot of roles that require us following the rules.
