Why I’m Leaving New York City

After living in Manhattan NYC for 20 out of 33 years of my life, I’m finally leaving. It’s where I grew up but I’m just done with it. It’s still one of the greatest cities in the world but the NY city and state government has utterly abused my trust and money, and public safety and infrastructure and the subway have gotten worse and worse, as has the government's handling of crime and the migrant crisis. It’s time to leave.

No explanation needed. New York is a disaster of incompetence.

I’m from Australia and I was in New York recently. It was absolutely horrible. Subway was absolutely disgusting. Felt like a third world city

I moved to NYC three years ago, when I was 18. I feel like the subway wasn't even as bad as it is now... witnessing NYC infrastructure failing in real time is very sad. And you can't even call the NYPD when something happens, its like Gotham City without a batman.

My moment of realization came when I was waiting for the 4 train to go uptown at around 9:30 at night after a thankless 14-hr work day and a man came up and stood next to me on my left, dropped his pants and took a dump literally two feet from me. He then pulled his pants back up, zipped up and walked away. There was a transit cop there, maybe about 30 ft away to the right of me, didnt react, claims he never saw it and said "what do you want me to do?" I was a suburban NY kid who dreamt of living and flourishing in Manhattan but after that night I just wanted to get the hell out. Within 3 months, I had left NY altogether and I've never looked back.

Another major crime problem is if you decide to defend yourself then they arrest YOU!

The tax funds aren't being wasted, they're being extracted. The same thing happens in the UK, the companies who undertake the work are in the same circles as the people who are paying their wages - which basically means they're using your tax money to fill the pockets of their friends.

I don't hate taxes, but I want something for my money. When I expound on the virtues of the Scandinavian countries and what they offer, people get irate and say look at their tax rate, its 55%. Okay, but when I add up all the taxes I pay for purchases and property, etc., it comes out to about 45 to 50% without all the things offered by the Scandinavian tax structure, which includes everything from provided healthcare and infrastructure along with education. When it comes to infrastructure in NYC too many palms are getting greased. Your cost of construction is outrageous.

NYC became a glorified shopping mall. Besides luxury, the organic culture of NYC was drained.

We’re all here because we love Xiaoma for his language skills, insight on life, and generosity. But here he is showing what a real husband and father is. Making hard choices and work to do what’s best for his family

I left NYC 3 years ago for “upstate” the city is a 1 hour train trip away now. I miss it, return for medical visits (the Best care!) and fun.
Bit when I left, it was getting a bit crazy to walk around, so many mentally disturbed people everywhere. Gotta keep eyes wide open, watch your back. So sad.😞
I ❤ NYC

People should vote differently in NYC but they don’t and they expect things to get better which is insane

This is exactly how I feel about Chicago also. Just left for a suburb of Illinois. 😢

As a New Yorker born and raised? This is completely shameful. So sad.

I opened a startup business in NYC - worst decision I ever made. Despite the fact I didn't have a single employee, the government sent me a 30k bill for not having workman compensation insurance. Having to resolve that took hours on end and thousands of dollars in lawyer fees. Then to simply close that business was even more of a hassle.

You're the second major NYC YouTuber I've noticed has made video(s) about NYC issues rather than their usual content. The other is Cash Jordan who used to post about real estate and finding a good apartment, but lately has gone into detail about the very problems you mention, and more, like the large number of stores that were driven to close by excessive shoplifting.

My best friend moved out from New York a year ago and when I asked him why he left, he said “ I didn’t want to live on Gotham anymore.”

He moved there because living there was a dream for him, not a nightmare.
