This gets even sadder when you realize Azula was the younger sibling. She may have thought that this was one of the reasons Ursa played favorites and it probably reinforced azula's obsession with status.

I love the detail in this...when Azula was a kid she didn’t have the same yellow eyes she has while talking to her mother, yet a hint of her “monstrous” eyes is shown when using blue fire. It kinda represents how Azula turned into the monster her mother feared her to be and it awakened when she left.

I feel so bad for Azula that she thinks her mom doesn't love her. I love the way you draw her eyes, the yellow shine in her eyes. Love it!

sure daddy issues will mess you up but mommy issues can turn you into a freaking sociopath

Honestly, Azula is such a good antagonist, you can't even hate her.

Azula is 14 in the show and that’s what makes me feel really sorry for her
This is really good tho! The way you drew her emotions made it so much better. I also love the detail in her hair! A true work of art my dude

Someone once argued that Azula’s mother is completely innocent in Azula’s downfall. I do not think Ursa is completely guilty, and she truly did love Azula just as much with Zuko, but Ursa failed as a mother when she spent more time with Zuko. Ursa meant the best spending more time with Zuko, Zuko was unaccepted by his father at a young age and Ursa tried to fill that void by spending more time with him. It caused Azula to believe Ursa loved Zuko more, and Azula convinced herself her mother thought she was a monster. Azula isn’t completely heartless either..after years of being under Ozai’s control she still felt remorse after offending Ty Lee and is still hurt by what she thought of her mother. Ursa failed to see that in Azula at a young age and help Azula grow on that. Azula would be so much more different if Ursa displayed so much more affection on Azula.

I honestly just feel bad for Azula. Because at the end of everything, there’s only a broken and misguided 14 yr old girl left.

The lyrics
:

Azula:
From the moment I was born I had set high expectations.
Brother Zuzu you adored, you were always playing favourites.
I'd excelled in every realm, every test I would partake in.
Yet you always chose him~.

Ursa:
I admit I could be cruel, but no real harm was intended.
Zuko played by all the rules-

Azula:
And he earned all your affection!.

Ursa:
Father doted on your skill, anything you'd ask he gave you.

Azula:
Still!
You always chose him~.
The nation's pride and joy, yes your perfect little boy.
But your daughter~ was a monster in your eyes~.

I feel like Azula was having this conversation when she was starting to lose it and thought back to all what her mother would say and treat her

I love Azula as a character but she showed cruel qualities even as a young child. In a different environment, with a different father figure, I’m sure she would’ve been different but her mother was in an abusive relationship and although she loved Azula, Azula also reminded her of her abusive partner. This animatic was amazing btw!!

the fact that azula didnt get the love from her mother and beilved that her own mother thought her was a monster really makes me sad (also nice animation)

Just a theory:in an episode it said that most fire benders fuel their energy into anger like Zuko most of their fire is orange or red so it occurred to me...maybe azula's fire is blue because her energy is powered by sadness? I mean she always thought her mom didn't love her

Edit: lol I just realized that Azul means. Blue in Spanish and Azula has blue fire..get it?

My favorite aspect is definitely the eyes. They’re so bright and golden, definitely gives off a powerful effect, fitting to the song. The way you even drew the pupil, it gives off the monster effect, all very fitting to the song. In short, amazing detail and overall work ✨

I just had a thought... At 0:32 Ursa says "Father doted on your skill" and one thing I picked up is that she says that he doted on her SKILL and not necessarily on her because of who she was. She's saying that he loved her skill and not her
