Close Encounters of the Third Kind is perhaps John Williams' most underrated soundtrack. I guess it's not surprising since Star Wars came out the same year. But this movie's soundtrack is absolutely astonishing in its creativity. Easily one of the best of all time.

I saw ufos that stopped overhead for about a minute back in April, 66 in Clinton, Iowa. It sent a chill down my spine. When this movie came out I took my Wife to see it and I got the same chills down my spine watching the police chase the ufos.

I've been listening to John Williams since I was 9 years old in 1976. The Jaws soundtrack was the first album I ever owned. I still have that album to this day. I also still have the Close Encounters soundtrack on 8 track from back then as well (later on cassette, then CD). You just don't hear music like this in movies anymore.
