Little Tula is so good for being your Guinea pig. She just sits and takes it. Such a good girl.

This is a hard video for me... I had a teacup poodle that was rescue, never knew her exact age for she only had 3 teeth when I got her & her time body was so bent & twisted from broken bones that had never been set, she had suffered horrible abuse. The day I got her, the kennel she was taken from also held the body of her sister who had starved to death. Anyway, she became the center of my world, light of my life & my obsession was for her to know love & happiness before she passed. I honestly believe I achieved that plus. Her death hit me so hard, I was just crushed... a yr & 1/2 later I was ready to help again. Looking online at a local rescue that's really huge, I saw a little maltese who reminded me so much of Roxie, my poodle, I set it all up & my son picked her up the next day bringing her home to me as I'm disabled & pretty much house bound.
I was in shock when I 1st saw her & read her papers. They had adopted her out with her not eating or drinking, & her breath smelled like rotten meat. She didn't want to be held, or her mouth touched. From working rescue I knew what was going on & right away called them back asking for help with her dental issues. They told me their bets didn't do that, if I wanted to I could return her. Right, so they could adopt her or again to someone who might not know what was going on.. nope. I set up appt with my vet which was going to take almost a week, so I started her on some pain meds & stage 1 baby food chicken. She was so hungry, & in so much pain. But, after a couple of days she was eating and drinking because at 1st I had to force water. But knowing she was going to the vet I didn't want her dehydrated in case he needed blood. Plus I had no idea how long since she had eaten or drank given her paperwork. My vet put her on antibiotics, pain meds, & within 3 days she was sucking down that babyfood like a little hoover on high. Looking at her tell at the vets office, they were absolutely rotten, black, broken off, & the horrid smell was infection from multiple abcesses. I asked him was there any way he could put her under & clean them & pull what needed pulled & he told me no. He said he was so sorry, but she was so sick from the infection, she only weighed 5 lbs & he couldn't really determine age by her teeth, but he didn't believe she was strong enough to be put to sleep, she'd not wake up. Plan B. Can I keep her on antibiotics & pain meds till infections killed out then re-evaluate? Yes. So we tried. I did all I knew to make it a easy as I could, always medicate after meals, kept her on the baby food, let her set pace for anything and everything. It just didn't work out. She began to have stomach pain & diarrhea from the meds. We'd change the meds, give yogurt for the yeast, just one long dance of trying to help her while not making her deathly sick in the process. Everytime we tried to stop the Antibiotics, within 2 days her breath was horrific again, and now she was so exhausted from the yoyo she was beginning to refuse food & water no matter what we did or didn't do. We'd kept this going almost a month & we're barely maintaining, making no progress & she was getting weaker & sicker from all of it. I've walked down this road for years, & there's times it's beautiful, and times it's sheer hell. We love them so much, & even tho it's only had this little one a little over a month, I'd managed to get past her wall if indifference she'd been using to protect herself, & she's gone from curl up as far from me as she could get on the bed to creeping closer to she was pressed as tightly as she could get her little body next to mine. A couple of times she even made it all the way to lay on my chest, & when she lay down on my chest she's give this deep sigh & relax, like she'd finally come home. Instead of trying to pretend she was alone on our walls, she discovered she liked it when iraised the seat on my walker & she fit perfectly to ride in style... She was loved, she loved, and it was mutual happiness. If only love would fix everything. Watching her get sick, refuse food, not drink, couldn't give her meds on empty stomach, I knew what was coming. I talked to my vet, the same man who's cared for my animals for 45 yrs & I trust & love him. I told him I felt like we had reached the point where I was doing things TO her instead of FOR her to keep her alive, & she couldn't go on like this she wasn't getting better it was just a slower death and I couldn't keep doing her like this. I'd achieved my goal of helping a much as I could and she knew she was loved and she loved me too. He agreed with me, he said they had never cared for her teeth at all & he was surprised she's made it this long. So, like always when I have to help an animal with passing, I asked him to give her enough tranquilizer to knock her out. That injection always stings & I hate that, but I prefer it because I love my animals too the degree that no way can I hold it together & be calm for them or anyone else during this process, and I don't want me losing my mind & control of my emotions what they close their eyes to. So, he gave her the injection, and I held her in my arms rocking & humming softly telling her how very much she was loved and that is had so many dogs friends in my lifetime that she was going to join huge pack that would love her s much as I do & theirs all wait together for me to get there & I'd be there soon...
As the light left her eyes I broke down.
I was hurry, but also so angry at irresponsible owners. At the rescue for having vets there, but not talking care of this dogs meds. I'm 64 & on disability & I paid 50.00 for a poor little dog so sick with abcessed teeth that I spent another 120.00 trying to help her & it was too little too late. After her passing I had her cremated to sit on my dresser which is looking rather crowded from the years and bff that have made my life so much happier. My son's have been told when I pass to mix my ashes written theirs & toss us over the bluff to run the mountains together..
Sorry for the long story, but I really wanted to let it be known that their teeth are just like ours, need care like ours, and what happens to them also happens to us with no care. Also the lack of care on the rescues part really shocked me. No excuse for that at all. I'm going to be using these tips & lessons from Dr Jones & plz know I'm so very grateful. I have 2 pit bulls that are rescues & I've brushed their teeth from the 1st day they got here. But these other things will also help in sure, so thank you so much. ❤❤❤❤ bless everyone

I brush my dogs teeth with coconut oil. Sometimes I add the dog enzyme toothpaste. They love it and Ive never had to do a Vet cleaning for them.

My black lab Annie, lets me brush her teeth, do her nails, give her a bath, put drops in her eyes and ears. She is the sweetest dog and has never growled at anyone. She leaves the birds and the baby bunnies alone when they’re in the yard. I told her to leave it and she knows what that means. She has been Through raising three other puppies of my children and training them. I have five grandchildren and she loves on them. She’s been the best dog ever and I feel that God has blessed me with a kind soul

My dog is 3 years old, had tarter starting to build … I rubbed it on his teeth 5 days in a row … the tarter literally fell off & left his perfect pearly whites … now I give him coconut oil every other day… breath is undetectable. 🤓 & HE coconut oil. 😊

These are awesome, I’m going to start these; one thing: I’ve always been told by BeeKeepers who sell honey: a metal spoon destroys the good anti-bacteria enzymes in honey, always use a wooden spoon. ❤️

I'm sorry that I didn't find you earlier.
Because my 4 Chihuahuas had to have some teeth removed because I didn't know that there was home remedies that I could have been trying.
It upsets me that my vet didn't tell me about it.

Thank you for this info Doc! Just spent over 5k …my 8yr old chihuahua had so much tooth decay the infection was rotting down in her jaw bone. Can’t imagine the pain she was in. Plus she has congestive heart failure. Our vet sent us to University of TN so she would have a chance at surviving the surgery to remove all her teeth. Her anesthesiologist said they had a tough time keeping her alive…but she made it…2 days later she was acting like a puppy. I think she was so grateful to be out of pain. It’s going to take us a long time to payoff that debt but worth every penny. Do right by your precious companions!

I love these tutorials. I much rather try home remedies before having to pay for something you can fix at home. Thanks Doc ❤

30 years ago our vet used a tool to scrape the tartar & plaque off of their teeth!!
My husband and I can’t even afford dental care for ourselves!

Our pets get cavities for many of the same reasons we do. Wrong bacteria in their mouths due to the high carbohydrate diets, not enough minerals for the teeth to remineralize, and their food is too soft to "brush" their teeth. I found that giving my cats whole raw chicken hearts forces them to chew more, which helps clean their teeth. Plus heart contains a lot of taurine which is a vital amino acid for our pets' hearts. I hope this helps.

I had to have a dentistry last October on my 12 yr old boy as his teeth were in bad shape. It is hereditary in his line unfortunately. In less than six months his teeth looked bad again & that was with brushing. I’m on a fixed income so I really appreciate any way to maintain dental health without a vet visit

We lost one of our little Chihuahuas when her anesthesia was induced at a dental cleaning. Her heart stopped. 😢 We are trying everything we can to never expose them anesthesia again unless it’s an absolute emergency. I appreciate all of these tips you are giving us. Thank you!

Where would we be without Tula! Doc...the green tea is so helpful in many issues. I learned recently that my pup loves Coconut oil when I clean his teeth...also your Quercentin and Fish Oil has greatly improved his itching. Thanks for all your suggestions. I think the key is consistency! Your supplements are high quality. Happy Happy!
