Why I'm WORRIED About The DUNE Sisterhood TV Series [HBO Max]

Production on the Dune Sisterhood series set to air on HBO Max is moving full steam ahead. Recently some casting news has been revealed as well as more concrete details about its plot and source material. However in light of this newest information my initial optimism about the show has somewhat waned as a few red flags have given me more reason to be concerned about the prospects for this series. In this video I cover the latest updates and what we know so far about this Bene Gesserit prequel series and discuss why I’m feeling particularly concerned about this project moving forward.

Fans used to just say, "This could be good, or Oh cool! A sequel!"
Now we're just like, "Please don't f*** this up please don't f*** this up, please don't f*** this up."

We can add another red flag: Villeneuve and Spaiths are there only in name because the movies and rights. Even that I'm still hope that it could be good. Hoping that it could be more House of the Dragon than Rings of power.

I admire your restraint and professionalism in commenting on the likelihood of the quality of this prequel effort. You cover a lot of material in this video - it seems to me that you are developing into a top tier media analyst. If this is your career path I am going to wager that you will be sought after and recognized for your skills.

This is a fair assessment. I personally want denis to stay tight on this project. If he plans to adapt half or the entire dune series into film, while wanting to work on a TV series. He needs to stay focus and on track of what he wants established in this dune cinematic universe.

I made a long winded post in a Dune Facebook group about my dislike for Brian's bastardization of his father's work, with the Butlerian Jihad as my primary point. It disappeared. Confused, I resubmitted 3x before I realized the admins were denying the post.

After a little investigation, I came to realize the page admins were none other than Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson.

I am now banned from that page. Lmao

I’m going to hold out hope. But, of course, the modern entertainment track records has me nervous as well.

I have little faith any of the major studios can adapt the great works without bastardizing them. Thanks for the honest reporting!

Finished Sisterhood a few months ago. Wasn’t bad. The show will have potential but there will be A LOT of backstory to explain and I’m not sure how it’ll translate for people who aren’t familiar with Dune. If they’re going to do a show on the expanded Dune books they should do the story Vorian Atreides and his rise during the Jihad. I don’t think Herbert/Andersons version of the Jihad is what Frank had in mind, but there were still fun books.

You were spot on about the Rings of Power, so now I am worried too

We all know how this is going to turn out lol. I think we are at a point in Fandom where we have the right to be cynical immediately. Totally agree about Brian's work too. It definitely reads like fanfiction imo

Your content is always spot on, I've read that they have cast a Fremen character, but the
fremen don't come into existence until AG 7193 well outside the stated time frame of the series.
lets hope the don't put the Duni-verse through the ROP are messages from the deep

Yet you always sound so calm in your delivery.

House of the dragon is doing a prequel pretty well, which surprised the HELL out of me… granted they have help from the author of the source material….

Given the state of hollywood and the quality of it's product, the fact this is a thing at all is red flag enough for me.

"Nerd Cookies" is worried about this new TV series, that doesn't bode well; let's hope they surprise us with very good television.

As always, 👍👍for the video!

Thank you for the update. The list of her previous works should concern all fans of Dune.❤

Diane Ademu-Jones' pedigree as a writer is solid my book. I enjoyed Medium, Crossing Jordan, Body of Proof and even 1-800-Missing. Those were all decent procedurals from another age, and Bly Manor is its own league. Haven't seen neither those vampire shows nor Empire - not my cup of tea completely.

But whether, and if so - how all those credits are going to translate to Dune world - is another thing completely. In this day and age a healthy initial distrust should be a baseline.

I miiiight have said this before, but... Everything with Brian Herbert's name on it cashgrab and an insult to Frank Herbert's work. Your calling his books closer to Dune fan fiction than a faithful expansion is so spot on, and the nicest way you could put it. I read two of the prequel books and gave up because they were so simpleminded, when Dune was sheer genius.

It makes me sad when Elaine gets sad. But yea. I think that… the writing tropes of her past work fit poorly into the universe of Dune. While Kevin J Anderson is one of the hardest workers I know (I’ve met him half a dozen times. He’s a machine) I suspect he and the Herbert’s are mostly on this for a paycheck. Because at least with KJA, you’ll get basic sense from a writing perspective.

The inclusion of the Empress deviating from the source material indicates Hollywood is aiming for another woke epic, as if we haven't already have enough of those.
