It's kinda crazy, I recall seeing this game be sold on eBay long, long ago. I was tricked, at first, thinking it was a real game, just made by a different company. I didn't have much internet access until the HGSS days, and that's when I finally found out what ROM hacking is, and I even started playing a few that were available at the time. However, I only just yesterday started playing Quartz for the first time, in a way, I'm getting a tad nostalgic for the simpler days, back when most of the hacks I played were either not that great, or unfinished, or both. This one isn't that great on its own, but it represents a specific era in Pokemon ROM hacking, and in a way, it deserves a bit of respect. The hacker was so young when he made it, and to have that level of dedication is no easy feat for a project like this.

All things considered, At least this was the first Pokémon Game ever to have a Dark Type Gym. It took GameFreak 8 Gens to add one. Meanwhile the ROM-Hacking scene made it possible in Gen 3.

Dude hell yes! I remember back in 2009-2010, (i was 9-10 years old) i would go to this flea market down in Fort Meyers Florida. This guy there had a video game shop, all kinds of things i never saw before at that age. Including ROM hacks. I browsed this huge glass case full of Game boy games, and among them were Pokemon Quartz, Chaos Black, and some others. Of course i asked him questions, he basically lied and told me these were "un released" pokemon games with new pokemon. The amount of confusion i had about these games made them so damn cool. Where did they come from? How were they made? Who made them? Its stuff like this that made me love pokemon all the more. Nowadays, you can buy ROM hacks off Etsy that are AWESOME. But we wouldnt have that without the OG pokemon hacks from the old days. Thanks for further documenting this RELIC.

Got this in a random shop in cyprus. Save data kept corrupting so never got past the equivalent of dewford island. Was fun though, although the designs of these fake pokemon creeped md out a little

Crazy thing about this game is that it connects to pokemon 3rd gen if you link with it.. i remember having a swampert with a fly move 🤣

Rom Hacks in the past were often unfinished or just slight modifications of the original. My friend used to have one of those Pokemon Quartz cartridges and gave it to me later. The saving function stopped working at some point :/

I still remember this hack, trust me it was one of the earliest hacks I ever played! It goes back the days of me playing GBA games on my PSP & Wii, such good times :)

It felt really cool being able to do that xD now it's just like nothing being able to emulate on whatever you want, at the same time I still owned a bootleg cartridge like the ones you showed in the video.

I remember this is my first Pokemon game that me and mg father bought for my GBA SP for Php.2, 000. I didn't even know that this was a bootleg rom hack of ruby/sapphire back then. The sprites are so curse I hated it, I didn't even get to finish the game since the battery inside the cartridge died.
