A story that has been making the rounds on social media this week is about an apparent new discovery regarding the Shroud of Turin. Reports say there is new evidence the Shroud is 2,000 years old, which coincides with our Lord's life and crucifixion. These reports originally surfaced in 2022. What appears to be new are studies concluded earlier this summer. They were focused on blood stains and scourge marks found on the Shroud and allude to Christ's death by being nailed to a cross, a common method of execution by the Romans at this time in 33 AD. President of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith, Fr. Robert Spitzer, shares his reaction to the new scientific research and explains it in terms a non-expert can understand. Fr. Spitzer tells us where things stand now with scientific research and whether there is a consensus about the Shroud and its date.

Was there any doubt??? And anyway, just like the father said, we really don't need the shroud as proof that Jesus was with us. The Eucharist is the greatest miracle here on Earth to show us that He was always with us. Even if we don't feel anything emanating from the Blessed Host or seeing rays of light coming out of it, He is always there The Most Blessed Sacrament.

In my humble opinion, it's real.

The shroud continues to gift the world with more and more evidence as time goes by, but incredibly the evidence rather than disproving it's authenticity, does the exact opposite, against all expectation, and proves beyond doubt it's miraculous existence.

Imagine, 2, 000+ years later, the question Jesus asked, "whom do men say that I am" is still being debated.

For the skeptic, no proof is enough.
For the believer, no proof is necessary,

I always thought it was already proven. I have been watching it for years and years and years and years and this doesn’t surprise me. I’m surprised that everybody’s talking about it now though.

At the same time that people are moving away from the science that affirms the sanctity of the newly conceived baby, and away from the science that supports the naturally born gender of each person, thus denying God's plan of the creation of new life, we see science bringing us closer and closer to the affirmation of God's other greatest miracle, the Resurrection.

The question asked for Father Spitzer to answer is so wide that EWTN resorted to cutting Father Spitzer off.
Shame on EWTN. Prepare narrow questions to receive narrow answers.

The shrouds evidence is more for unbelievers, which may stand in judgement against unbelief. But for us catholics and Christians, it serves to validate the gospel accounts and strengthen our faith, so we can come to appreciate more the passion, death, & resurrection of our Lord.

When I meet Jesus in heaven, the first question I want to ask him is: "is it really you on the shroud of Turin, Lord?"

Jesus' beard is missing a part in the shroud. So accurate to the Gospels.

Increible EWTN?, no entiendo como cortaron la entrevista al padre R. Spitzer, cuando estaba brindando los datos comparativos y que lo llevaban al evento de la Resucción, que era lo que el Padre iba a concluir! Que error EWTN...

What is also very interesting is that the blood type on the Shroud of Turin is AB. This is the same blood type of the blood for the Miracle of Laciano and other Eucharistic miracles.

I always felt it was real. The doubters are non-believers. How could you not see Jesus when looking at the shroud? That just baffles me.

Amazing, what religion would say “this relic that shows the truth of our religion isn’t necessary”, Christianity is mighty, our God is an awesome God!
