Custom Fan Control for the 2013 Mac Pro

The 2013 Mac Pro (aka Trashcan) can get a little hot under the collar if you push it hard. In this video I explain how to use the TG Pro app to setup some fan curves to stay ahead of the Mac Pro meltdown.

I got my Mac Pro running with MacFans Control and I love it. The fan speed is based on the temperature sensor of one the graphics card (one that sometimes show +1°C than the other). It starts speeding up at 45°C and reaches max speed at 65°C 😉 It's a free app and I started using it with my MacBook Pro A1260 10/12 years ago. Works great in my opinion 👌🏻

Great Video! When I bought my Trashcan, I tried a few fan control apps. This was the one I settled on. Works really nicely, and worth the money to keep my machine safe.

I use Macs Fan Control, have used it for many years now, great for the 2011 MacBooks etc. to help stop the GPU overheating and failing, and use it now on my 2013 Mac Pro for the same reason as you, I didn't like how hot it ran, especially when editing videos.

Thank you for keep making videos about this machine. Recently I put new thermal paste and thermal pads on CPU and GPUs (I dint make tests) . I don't use it, but I love the trashcan (and I used to hate it years ago).

I've used TG Pro in the last on other computers, it's great. I currently use iStat Pro, it offers more monitoring options for system resources, and functions pretty much the same as TG Pro. It does cost more, though. I have my Mac Pro fan set to 100% all the time. I use it for VMs, and it's in a tight spot where it needs more air pressure to stay cool. at 100% I can't hear the fan over my air scrubber and RAIDs. There's been several times where I forget to turn the computer off, and don't even realize it's running for a few days, until I feel the hot air blowing out the top.

Yea seems to me it was all about apple keeping the system quiet but at a cost of thermal issues this also doesn’t help it’s on a triangular heatsync with all three sharing the thermal load on this one single fan. Needed more fan control options built in don’t get me wrong love the design but took one of these to bits a few days ago and found the cpu burned in the middle wasn’t good
