On January 10, 2010, the 13 year old version of myself rolled her wheelchair into the middle school I attended. I had to miss the entire second quarter of school that year, because I'd broken my leg and had to have 3 surgeries and I had gotten swine flu, it was bad, we'll leave it at that. Over the course of the 4 months I missed, depression hit hard. It was really rough on me. First thing in the morning on my first day back, the guy I have a HUGE crush on comes up to me, looks me in the eye and says, "Oh, you're back, I was hoping you had killed yourself." That was the last straw. I spent the rest of the day planning it. My friend's mom was going to drop me off at my house and I would be home alone. It was a perfect day to die.  The album Ocean Eyes by Owl City had just come out and I was already in love with it. I decided to listen to it while I wrote my note. The last song of the album, Tidal Wave, comes on and I listen to it, REALLY listen to it. By the end of it, Adam Young had given me just enough hope to keep going. Over 5 year later and I am so glad to be alive. I always knew that I'd kill myself before the age of 18 and yet, here I am at 19, alive and trying to use my story to help others. You never know what beautiful, wonderful, amazing things your future may hold. Please, hold on, your life still lies ahead of you, waiting to be lived.

When Simple Plan was making their album, they asked their fans to send in as many letters as they could about what their songs meant to them
Those letters became this song, some of the fans were even asked to come to the studio and that's the people you hear in the background. They are fans who sent in letters because Simple Plan means that much to them. This is one of the greatest songs because of how much it means to the band and their fans.

I know when people say "it will get better" you just shrug off and think it never will but you know it's gonna make a deep scar and hurt so don't make it hurt even more. Anyone can win a battle, but only a soldier can win a war. Keep fighting, it will be alright. You know it will. Smile. Look at yourself in the mirror. You are beautiful. Don't fight me on that; you know you are. I know things are hard, I know it seems like there's no point living life, but you are the point. You are the one who keeps strong through all this, you can do this. The struggles in today will be the smiles in tomorrow. Believe in life, believe in your smile, believe in you. Because you matter, you count, you can get through this. You are a soldier, you can win the war. Whatever it is, you can do this. Whether it's something small like an English assignment tomorrow, or something big like the loss of a family member, you can do this. Don't fight the fact that it won't get better, because you are just making it worse. Everyone has a purpose, if you haven't found yours yet it will come. You won't know when, you won't know where, but you will know what.

If they say it's impossible, it's impossible for them, not for you.

I know people are wondering why I wrote this. I wrote this because I care. About you. About your family. About your life. You are beautiful in your own way. When you have insecurities, I like to call them imperfections. And you have perfect imperfections. They are what makes you you. So never try to take that joy from yourself. I have a story:
Once I was in middle school and my mom was in the process of divorcing dad, and so she picked me up from school. And so she turns on the radio and this song is playing and suddenly it takes my mind off of the divorce. So a couple of days later me and mom moved to a new house without dad. And it’s been great ever since.

The story behind “This Song Saved My Life” (2012) is EXTRAORDINARY❕

The piece has been created after Chuck Comeau tweeted that Simple Plan wanted their fans to tell them how their music or music in general has changed or even saved their lives. And many did tweet back❕ Then, Chuck, Pierre and Toby Gad put the replies together and composed a song reflecting all these feelings showing how important music can be.
