My son had not spoken to me for 5 years when this song hit the charts. I was very strict and hard on him, not understanding why he couldn't be more like his older brother. This song made me adjust my attitude which healed our relationship. I am 70 years old now and I still tear up listening to this song. But he made some adjustments too, and realized that I only wanted him to be successful. He now has his first real job at age 39. Yes, he still lives with his mother, but I do nothing to discourage his ideas about what he wants to accomplish and am very careful to provide support and encouragement to help him reach his goals.
