Homemade Whipped Topping - Fresh Whipped Cream vs. Processed Whipped Topping

Chef John, First of all I like to say that I'm a southern girl. I grew up eating sweet potato pie for Thanksgiving, but this year I made your "Best Pumpkin Pie Ever." OMG that was the BEST pie that I have ever put in my mouth. Actually so of my family thought it was sweet potato pie kicked up. Thank you so your great recipes!! Smiles from NC!!

Thank God you did this video. I made homemade whipped cream last week using the same 2 ingredients (didn't know it needed to be cold - good tip) then went over my parents & they had "CW". I was so disappointed. Can't believe people don't make their own, but hopefully your video will inspire them to read freaking labels & make their own.

Just made my own and there is such a difference in taste and "Mouth Feel" as Chef John puts it. Taste more pure and like cream, rather than the cool whip which does feel quite oily in your mouth. Thanks Chef John!

YES! I'm glad you put up a video that details how many horrible ingredients there are in pre-made sauces, dips, and processed foods. if there's anything i can make from scratch without too much difficulty i will choose that method every time over buying myself heart disease in a jar.

Lol this video is great and educational, showing how EASY it is to make. Thankfully I grew up in a household where my mom cooked from scratch as much as she could. Can't remember the last time I've even had a can of soup. Cheers Chef, and keep 'em coming :)

Without telling you how old I am, CoolWhip hit the market when I was young.  My mom, not being an adventurous person in the kitchen, always bought CoolWhip, so that's what I was raised on.  My daughter got a job at an upper-class restaurant and they made everything....nothing there was frozen or pre-made.  She came home one day and insisted on making home-made whipped topping.  OMG!!!  I have NEVER tasted a more delicious topping!!!!  Since then, it's been NOTHING but home-made whipped topping for me!  And it is SO easy to whip up!!!!  CoolWhip is NASTY!
