The Philosophy of Minimalism | Ancient Wisdom for Living a Good Life

The philosophy of minimalism. Spending some time living abroad, with only a fraction of my stuff made me think about minimalism and what is essential for me. I realized something that many ancient philosophers have known for a long time: We don't need much to be happy.

We tend to work very hard and put a lot of effort into obtaining things that we don't really need and that is not going to improve our well-being. Trying to live with less can help us identify, what's essential, so we can focus our attention on the things that truly bring us happiness. In this video, I will share my thoughts on minimalism and also talk about the perspectives of people like Epicurus, Seneca, and Henry David Thoreau.

This is one of the best videos I have ever found on YouTube! Thoreau, Schopenhauer, the Transcendentalists, the Early Christians and genuine Mystics of all times would love your philosophy of simplicity!!!

Thanks for these ideas I hope that I learned them early on in my life I would have saved a lot of time and a lot of energy especially in this modern time where consumerism really hunted a lot of people's lives and making them miserable.

And the problem is that most people aren't aware of this fact they are chasing the next thing hoping that's going to make feel the hole inside of them and being aware of that is my own life let me to question those chases and I found that simplicity is the answer

it's so true, we think we need so much more than we do. I'm so glad we had this experience, I learned so much about myself!

This was insightful! I’ve been spending the past 3 months traveling from state to state in the USA living out of a carry on luggage and a backpack. It’s been enough, and interestingly, I noticed that I really only consistently use a fraction of even those items I brought. I agree with your summary that the things that are essential to us are easy to obtain. Throughout this time of traveling, I have not missed any item. In fact, I’ve felt more fulfilled. Developing habits like exercising consistently, going on walks and sitting in nature, meditating and journaling don’t require much but have brought me more fulfillment than purchasing a lot of things. I’d be curious to hear whether you have habits for yourself that have brought you a lot of fulfillment or a significant increase in your wellbeing?
