EASY CHALLAH RECIPE:

It will yield 2 medium challah

BREAD Flour: 500g or 3cups+ 2 TBSP ( if you dunk your cup in the flour) but 4 cups and 1tbsp if you spoon and level to measure your cups of flour While measuring your flour
SALT: 10g /2 rounded tsp
SUGAR: 8 g or 2 tsp ( you can easily double the amount of sugar to have a sweet challah : you will not need to adjust any ingredients but the rising time can be a bit slowed-down: you may add 10 minutes to the 1h30-2h rising time)
OIL ( I like using sunflower oil) 80g or 1/3 cup
Warm water: 95g or 6 tbsp
Eggs: 2

To proof the yeast
95g warm water/ 6 tbsp
8g of yeast 2 rounded tsp
4 g of sugar / 1tsp

Fluff is fluff! I’m not a Jew but I’m a Christian who’s trying to observe the Jewish holidays and this is my first time at all of this. Although I have celebrated Passover the last 3 or 4 years. I’m now trying to observe them all. This is my first time even seeing this beautiful bread and am going to make your recipe tonight. I hope it turns out as beautiful as yours. I’ll try to remember to let you know. Thank you for sharing this! Happy Rosh Hashana! God bless!

I made Challah as a teenager, and the whole family loved it. I’ve long wanted to learn how to make the beautiful, intricate braid (which I previously thought was 4 strand) - and here you’ve taught me in under 30 seconds! What an amazing gift you have for sharing knowledge, Sarah - thank you so very much❣️🥖

I made the challah yesterday and it came out great. I LOVE your clear directions, and the measurements by weight. As a former professional baker I prefer recipes like that, as it makes them easier to increase or decrease. The part I liked best was about forming the strands, rolling out the air and pinching the edges. I've done plenty of braiding, but your ideas gave me some of the best strands I've had.

Thank you so much!
I’m not a baker (never made challah) but I’m going through grief and decided on a whim to give this recipe a try tonight. I’m on the 1st proof now. I’m going to try the 5 strand braid you demonstrated and a 6 strand round pattern. Wish me luck!

Ok Sarah.... I followed your recipe and it did great! No peeking. Perfect at 30min. I have to admit the amount of water was misleading as it was too wet. So I would say just add 1tbsp water at a time as it mixes and absorbs the water gradually.

Fluff is fluff. I”ve made these before and theyre great but I’ve just made three five stranders out of double the dough. They’re just going into the oven. I’ve been unemployed for three months and unable to get a decent job so I’ve been baking. At the level i am it isn’t fast enough to make serious money but friends are buying and liking it. I also made them your brioche in a bag buns and some ordered a double batch for their christmas breakfast and loved them. I just wanted to say shalom to you all and thank you for helping me through this tough time. I especially like braiding bread - is that girly?- and think that when i decide to specialize in four products, this is going to be one of them. God bless you and your family and neighbors.

I have managed to ruin my last attempt to make Challah. Your method seems most attractive. I will do my best to get it right. I am new at baking and want to be successful. Wish me luck.

I would like to thank you. Some people can do, some can teach and some can do both. You are one of the ones that can do both. I have always had problems braiding a 5 braid loaf. No matter how many videos I watched, I couldn't get it. Your instructions were clear and made simple by using something that everyone could understand, a the stand braid. I also made my dough like you did and WOW, what a wonderful feeling dough. My next project, Babka.
