What is challah bread

Challah bread or sabbath bread is a type of yeast bread very similar to a brioche, but with no dairy on it.

Challah bread is a kosher loaf of braided bread.

The simple challah dough is made with eggs, water, flour, oil, yeast ,honey and salt. The bread is typically pale yellow in color because so many eggs are used, and it has a rich flavor too.

Challah is eaten on Friday night and Saturday. It’s a Jewish plaited bread that is eaten with the first course on the sabbath eve. It’s also eaten the next day at breakfast and lunch.

On Sunday, any leftover challah can be turned into French toast or bread and butter pudding.

July/2022, this recipe is quite forgiving. I made 1 challah by dividing dough into 6 pieces weighing 147g each, I only used 30g of EVO and 6g of Kosher salt [Dad's dietary needs]. Our giant challah started browning at minute 14. Used a large piece of foil to loosely tent the top and lower temp to 335F. Continued baking for another 15 minutes with great success [internal temperature read 190F]. Allowing it to cool was the hardest part! The GIANT was beautifully golden and pulling strands from a slice was delightful. ♥Much love from CA♥
