I only have one criticism of this video. Did not marriage start way before the 1800's? I would love to know the history dating farther back. I would also love to know the Eastern cultural aspects of marriage.

I don't think anyone gets married so that another person can "fix" them or make them better. That sounds like such a drag actually. I think my husband and I get along best when we respect each other and stay on our own page instead of telling one another what to do. I highly recommend it!

Doesn't take into account changes in the legal landscape, specifically no-fault divorce.

Loved your video. It made a lot of logical sense.
You should make more videos.

Gender roles started in the 1850's?! Have you read the bible?

It starts with a celebration and end with deceive and drama. 🤔😒

Thing is, we're all different people. Spouses can be on different levels of the hierarchy-of-needs pyramid, either realistically or perceived. One spouse may be on level 3 while the other is on level 5.

I would not recommend marriage to anyone. You can have an exclusive long term relationship without it.

Pretty sure marriage existed for millenia before 1850

Already Thomas Aquinas thought that friendship is maybe the most important thing in the marriage. Bible also makes it pretty clear that the prayers spouses pray together are of huge importance.

Great videos :) Only a technical complaint: something nasty is happening with the audio from 2:00 onwards... Clipping on the narration, makes it hard to listen to through headphones. Nice work tho!

You expect too much from another person....which will likely lead to disappointment. 😊😊

It all begs the question (which, judging by the comments here, no one seems to be asking): If one could reduce a complex, multivariate subject like the history of traditional marriage into a three-and-a-half minute one-dimensional political (and quite literal) cartoon, replete with corporate-speak and shallow feminist banalities ("gender stereotypes, " "constricting social roles"), what kind of a person would buy into this sort of crap unconditionally? Would it not be best disseminated on YouTube to an untold multitude of well-intentioned and perfectly misguided disciples?

The advent of the pill in the 60s then abortion on demand in the 70s has led the wake of carnage .. medical advancements aren't always good.

Marriage was not about contracts, money, property, child support, spousal support, or lifestyle upkeep., it was about two people coming together under God in order to create a family, raise children, take care of their lands etc. divorce wasn’t accepted norm, today you have more people marrying and divorcing than ever many people marrying and divorcing multiple times and still there is no joy. Also, it’s become a business transaction, people that have money want to make sure they’re not going to part with half of their assets and those that have less or no money are wanting to gain more money and so it becomes a calculating game of who can manipulate the other the best.

Marriage was worthwhile when, back in the day, you married for life. Nowadays, a woman can break up with you for any reason, and get you for alimony and child support if she was a stay at home mother, as well as half your stuff. No thank you.

like to see the percentage of marriages that would baffle the grandparents. Gotta be less than 5%
