obi-wan thought anakin would die by the fire on mustafar which is why he left without striking the final blow, which also explains why in the kenobi series obi-wan is shocked to find out vader is alive

Anakin: You underestimate my power!
Obi-Wan: No, you have underestimated the power of the High Ground!

People be forgetting the force got a good side and a dark side. So letting the force do what it wants causes suffering

"The force should be the one to determine Anakin's future."
This line hits hard for me.

I really wish Star Wars had a what if series of full potential anakin

This wasn't executing an unarmed person. It was putting someone out of their misery. It would be a mercy and thus acceptable to for a Jedi.

Anakin was going to die if nit for Palpatine. The only question was if it would be quick via lightsaber, or long and torturous via burning alive, one of the most painful ways to die in existence.

Basically, Qui-Gon is saying every decision, good or bad, Anakin has ever made was by the Force

Anakin was never free until after his death in Return of the Jedi

Doesn’t kill him in revenge of the sith, then doesn’t kill him in the obi wan series, doesn’t kill him in a new hope, then leaves Luke to kill his own father, perfect…..

“Not the Jedi way” (to kill a limbless man who is burning up and screaming in pain)

Obi-Wan just couldn't fathom a future where Anakin would be a terror at that point. He just thought he was done for and would eventually die from his injuries.

Well, i think that he was totally regreting it after looking at Vader's eyes

Obi wan: master, i regret not killing anakin
Qui gon: then why didn't you kill him in your second duel?

I always just assumed he saw he had cut his legs and arm off and saw him literally completely on fire and just assumed he had died and then worked out the truth later, because yeah its not the jedi way to kill people but im pretty sure it's not the jedi way to cut someone up and BBQ them but what do I know right

According to Kenobi he was under the impression he was dead so he didn't let him live

We know underneath the mask it was Anakin but Obi-Wan couldn’t strike his former apprentice down cause they were brothers, until Darth Vader said he killed Anakin, not Obi-Wan. It’s sad really

It'd clear in the kenobi series that he deeply regretted not putting anakin out of his misery, especially after the third sister told him that anakin was still alive

Quick reminder that the Kenobi series shows that Obi-Wan thought Anakin died on Mustafar. Furthermore, in the same series we find Kenobi und Vader fight again and Kenobi leaves Vader rather helpless. He could have killed him without too much afford.

I always assumed it that OW thought that Anakin would die there but then he refused to kill him again 10 years later.

And left him for dead again by the end of Kenobi 2.
