When my grandfather finally bought a tractor, he still kept his draft horses. He frequently needed them to pull the tractor out of the mud.

Man: This is horsepower.
Horse: Hold my carrot.

Just the sound of them walking sounds like a small thunderstorm. Would be neat to hear all 16 of them galloping and how loud that thunder would sound. :D

They make it look like they were just out for a gentle afternoon stroll. That's what you call horse power, beautiful to watch❤

My father, born in 1901, worked for a drayage company in the 1920s. The company specialized in moving huge equipment. They still used draft horses until about 1930 because the men felt they had better control and more power with the horses.

These horses were pulling it with no problem

I love how they're like 'So, we're just pulling this empty rig all the way home then?' even at the end of the pull...

That is the literal meaning of horse power. Very impressive.

I have listened to some of old timers that worked with horses. They liked it and were sad to go to tractors. Not everybody that used horses were good at it and abused their horses, but the some had a special connection with their animals.

An old horse logger told me you could kill a horse because they would pull so hard their bellies would almost be on the ground and too much weight would cause them to have a massive hernia.

Another when asked if he was glad to have tractors said no. Horses need to rest at the end of every furrow, but tractors just kept on going and going. Driving tractor is incredibly boring.

I was lucky to be able to listen to these old guys stories. They were strict, tough and kind.

I bet that team could pull double that, and might start looking like they were working! They were just literally walkin away that sled!

No tractor can beat that kind of traction.

Man, so strong and so beautiful. A relaxed walk to a full - pull. Amazing.

I stood beside a couple of those a few months ago. The owner said they weighed 2250 pounds each and were wearing steels shoes for pulling so don't stand too close. I took the advice.

Absolutely amazing animals and people think the tractors built this world long before that there were the Clydesdales and percherons all the heavy draft horses we would never have gotten anywhere without them amazing animals

The winner is obvious: horses don't puff out black smoke

One of the coolest things I've ever seen was when the Budweiser 8 horse hitch came to Salt Lake City a couple years ago. They actually let the public walk alongside as they headed down the street. I'll never forget the sounds of all those dinner plate sized hooves clopping on the pavement, the snorts, and the jingling of the harnesses. Hindquarters and withers on some of those Clydesdales were over 6'!! I love draft horses....😎👍

At first i thought that the horses were going to try to pull the tractor from behind while it was driving in the other direction.

More weight, traction, torque and ... horsepower.

1 HP is the amount of power a typical horse can maintain for a full work day, it can produce a LOT more for short bursts.
