My late Father-in-law moved West with his parents & many brothers to the last county in Texas to be settled - Cochran County, known as 'The Last Frontier'. This was in the early 1900's and their lives were filled with hard, exhausting work with little time for the children to play. They had brought their most prized possessions with them - two teams of huge, beautiful gray Percherons which they used to deep break the endless, sandy grasslands of the Panhandle-Plains area.
He spoke lovingly of those 'gentle giants' and wove intricate tales of bone-weary hard work, sleeping 6 to a bed to stay warm (and snow blowing thru the cracks of the frame board house & settling in icy drifts on top of the many quilts their tires mama piled onto them. But he said their #1 priority was caring for those horses; those teams were their bread & butter and he said they always took care of the horses before anyone or anything else.
The horses had a cozy barn (much better than the house), the best hay, alfalfa & oates available and veterinary care whenever the train brought one thru.

Watching these gorgeous draft horse videos really bring back the times I sat listening to him spin the tales of breaking out Ol' Man Dunn's fields (and him following the team around with a yardstick to 'make sure he wasn't being cheated'); hitching up the teams to go pull cars out of the ditch on the curve into town; even the times he would ride one of the proud, hefty "Grays" over to a certain young lady's house and slide down to 'sit a spell' with her and maybe even get some lemonade & a cookie from her watchful mama.
He spun some pretty glorious tales, leaving me with a longing to know & care for such beautiful beasts!

Thank y'all for all the videos posted - they are much appreciated!!

God bless!!❤

I don't understand this. Ae they doing short pulls while they're cold? Like some weight lifting competition?

With All that power they could take off in a second and yet they listen to one mans voice commands, , they want to please him so much...in a split second they stop, back up, , and jump into action
