"desu" is ending for "noun sentences" and "adjective sentences" while "masu" is a polite ending for verbs.

So kore means ''this'' so does sore mean ''that'?'
And when you say kore wa it means ''this is'' and when you say sore wa it means ''that is''?

Hi Bryan,
Japanese sentences have all hiragana, katakana and/or kanji depending on sentence components. In the sentence "kore wa mizu desu ka" in the video, only "mizu" has kanji for this word (= water) and the rest is hiragana.
Japanese names can be in hiragana, yes :)
And lastly, we use katakana for special reasons and the main usage is to write foreign words or foreigners' names.

Thank you for these videos! You guys are amazing. I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but with the information given, can I know if the phrase 'Yes, that's right' (はい, そ で す) can also be worded as そ で すか?  ("Is that so?"). I would like to know the same for 'Is this incorrect?/wrong' (ちがいます?) Excuse me if the sentence structure makes no sense, I just learned hiragana.

It's because the 'wa' there is a particle. So the particle is は. If you wanted to say 'watashi', though, which is a word, you'd use わ. :)

Kore wa okashi desu ka? good videos! i'm a spanish/english speaker but my primary language is spanish and i think this is more easy for a spanish speaker to learn (not offending anyone), spanish has almost the same accent as japanese, i was very surprised! im looking foward into learning more everyday! awesome videos!
