I'm a semiprofessional dancer (46 years old) and have my (left) hip replaced 10 months ago. After some rehab, physiotherapy and lots of training I an able to train, dance and perform again. So everything is possible ;-)

I'm 51, a martial artist, runner and overall active person. 5 years ago, I had my left hip replaced. And I'm VERY glad I did. If I hadn't, I don't think I would have survived this long considering how debilitating my arthritis was.
I had the direct anterior procedure with a Zimmer-Biomet Taperloc Microplasty prosthesis.

20 years of pain both hips needed replacement and at 51 my horrific surf injury has taken its toll on most of my life.

This is an infomercial. I had posterior seven months ago, have full range of motion back. I do intense workouts, play hockey again and lift weights. My surgeon has over 30 years experience and does 5-6 surgeries a day in a hospital that specializes in hip and knee replacements.

Thank you. I'm 55 with dysplasia and I'm reluctant about surgery because it's scary. Your video helps me feel informed.

Your assessment at 1:28 in the video doesn't line up with my experience. At 60 I had a posterior hip replacement (hip resurfacing) and was walking without aids in 4 days. I returned to surfing & judo within 3 months, then heavy weight training (incl. deadlifts & squats ), & then took up skate boarding for the first time, without issues. 2 years later, when someone asks me which hip, I struggle to work out which one was replaced. I picked my surgeon from recommendations & from his understanding & approval of the activities I wanted to return to.

I had Posterior THR, Dual Mobility at 57, I was up and making myself breakfast the next day. I am 8 weeks from having the other hip done, it will be posterior also. I do have hip dysplasia and a tipped pelvis making it a more challenging surgery maybe that's why the posterior is chosen for best views and access for the surgeon.

I am 46 I’ve been dealing with pain in my hips since my 20s, finally went in to get checked out, after beating cancer, and was told I need both replaced. Sucks to hear, but I’m willing to do it.
Edited to add:
I forgot to thank you for this info.

My 71 year old husband had his right arthritic hip replaced yesterday by a surgeon who hit 2 of your 3 boxes. Ge did not use robotic assistance. He went there because he was highly recommended. Your thoughts please...

Thank you so much. We have fairly reliable resources like Consumer Reports, Google Ratings, Amazon Ratings, etc. to research buying just about any product, but, for something as important as surgery or finding the best doctor for one's needs in general, it seems nearly impossible to find reliable data to make such an important decisions. I'll start doing my research now! I don't need to stick to someone local. I'm willing to travel anywhere in the US for top-notch work from an experience professional.

Thanks for the video. I am 37 years old and I have to do bilateral hip replacement.
- Which material of prosthesis do you recommend for me to ensure the longest lifetime and the most functionality?
- is it true that minimally invasive Posterior approach can potentialy ensure higher precision?
- Are there different types of Anterior approach? Which one is the best?
Thanks

My hip pain
1
Effect my sleep if i dont do exercise. If i dont exercises for the hip the night tightness will be worse. Pain is 2-3/10 but tightness of the muscles. Even if I do exercise (recomended by physio) the hip pain is also there but less. Applying heat oil is also good.
2
Not much range of motion problem if i warm up or do daily exercises.
3
Cannot play golf or badminton or run much. Pain of hip if i do. Mainly sleep problem. Level of pain is as describe above.
4
I brisk walk 3 times a week. But not too much the hip dont like it, so I do your hip joint exercises. So I walk only about 3km instead of 5km.
Do I need a hip replacement?

If your not orthopedic why are you giving your opinion on this specialty? If something happens unexpectedly I want to be in a hospital setting so that I have a better chance .. I think all of those who unfortunately passed or had significant complications would have agreed

Quick question: Would you bypass the robotic assistance with a highly experienced surgeon who has done 8000+ hips? He meets all the other criteria outlined in this vid though. Your vids have been super helpful in my hip replacement research. Thanks for doing these!
