At first I didn’t understand why it wasn’t working, although I was sure that I was doing everything right. then I slowed it down and repeated it exactly and it worked. I played a little with the values and settings of the modifiers and understood how it works. thank you very much for such a capacious and useful tutorial

You just saved my entire project, I needed to turn a LOT of images into meshes for a geo nodes thing, and I was trying to do it with greasy pencil, geo nodes, and a bunch of other inceasingly scketchy methods with tons of manual labor, but now I can just use 3 modifiers! thanks!

for the remesh part--personally i really like using quad remesh for this sort of thing, from what i can tell it maintains the sharp edges and better preserves the overall shape. either way though, great tutorial!!!

If anyone's having trouble, here's some things to check:
The image should be black with a white background. Don't worry about transparency.
Make sure the transforms are applied.

Holy cow… how often does anyone find PRECISELY what they were looking for??? Thank you for posting this video 😊

Anyone who can't follow this -- slow it down to 25%, then it becomes more manageable. But you should really know the Blender interface and operations pretty well already; beginners will likely get stuck.

Thanks, Stanislav! That's a neat technique.

In the old AutoCad days you could import an image as a png. You could rasterize 2D image and then extrude. This seems overly complicated. One step forward 10 steps back. The over complication of such redamentry features is mind blowing.

This doesn't work unless you already know how to do the LoopTools magic you did at the beginning

Super cool trick! This was what I was looking for, thank you. Great work. One thing I learned though is depending on how many subdivisions you have this can produce some very high mesh that might not be manageable in a larger scene. But I like this technique a lot.
