How to Turn any Image into Mesh Quick and Easy Blender 2.8 New 2019 Tutorial with the Knife Tool

Показать описание

Have you ever wondered how to turn reference images into a mesh using the Blender 2.8 knife tool?

In this tutorial, we look at the quickest way to build up mesh from an image reference using Blender 2.8. You can use this on pretty much any image. Personally, I have found it very useful for things like swords and shields. Building a mesh from an image using the knife tool can give you a base mesh with which to start modelling and develop your mesh in Blender.

Blender 2.8 is the perfect software to create game assets, with references being an absolute essential to the 3D creation process.

I appreciate how you didn't make this a 10 minute tutorial, I think you went a little too fast though

Thank you for getting to the point and making the video exactly how long it needed to be. No useless rambling on and on like many do to get their videos 15-20 mins long. This video Rocks!

Thank you for this tutorial, I was able to model different types of images <3

Also for anyone needing to make rounded vertices, simply select the vertices and press Ctrl + Shift + B, zoom it out a bit, and scroll up or down for the segments

I haven't event tried to do anything on blender yet and this looks 100% easier than any tutorial thus far lol.

The thumbnail is misleading. This is just an extrusion of a 2D image. Might be helpful to some, but it's a far cry from inferring the contour of a model from a 2D image and creating a model based on it, like the thumbnail suggests.

Stop complaining about a dolphin. If you want a dolphin, follow this quick and to the point tutorial,

Take the dolphin image, do as he says and extrude it. Rotate perspective, switch to vertex selection in top left, cut out excessive mesh with knife tool, select extra vertices and delete them. Viola. It will probably be crude but you can Definitely tweek it to make the object more natural

I don't care what people say this video is so useful for me and it gets to the point

as @TheBryancrochet commented already--I would recommend Inkscape; Path menu -> Trace Bitmap to create vector artwork if the image is so simple and so clearly black & white such as in this video, or even if it's substantially more complicated as long as it has kind of clear lines or distinct colored areas so the Inkscape Trace Bitmap function can pick out the lines or areas. Save as .svg and import into Blender. It will be much more accurate and faster. Some 3D programs would also allow importing from pdf and instead of importing directly as a mesh, will import as curves (e.g. in Rhino 3D). If the image can not be clearly traced in Inkscape you might end up with non-extrudable curves or whatever, in which case you might have to do some manual clean up work or maybe even trace completely manually like in this video.
