It really helped me a lot, learning about the settings for flashing. Although I could not solve the failure of my NodeMCU, I bought another and I have used it a lot and without fail thanks to these tips.

you're a life savior!
I changed the "Flash Size" settings to make it similar to yours (it used to be 4MB(FS: 2MB OTA....) now it's 4MB(FS:3MB OTA....)
then I've pressed the Flash button, and shortly after I've pressed the Reset button as you said.
it worked perfectly!
PS: THE MESSAGE "Leaving...
Hard resetting via RTS pin..." DID NOT DISAPPEAR IN MY CASE, BUT THE CODE STILL WORKED!

I'm building the Morphing Digital Clock by Hari Fun and thought I had all of the correct libraries/sketches installed. I get the Leaving... Hard resetting via RTS pin... message, It shows I'm at 9600 baud and the serial monitor is blank. Appreciate any help. I am a total amateur at this. When I hit the reset on the esp module, the blue light blinks along with one LED on the display that blinks red in sync.

I have completed your installation for the RGB permanent Christmas lights, but when I go to flash the Node MCU it states that there was an error, no port found. I tried to reset it and flash it at the same time, I even restarted my computer and reloaded ESP flasher twice. Is there a certain pin on the node MCU that I have tot ground or something to activate the card? Also, I have attached my control wires for my lighting zones to D1 and D2, would this affect anything?

THanks....My ESP8266NodeMCU was stuck for days. The hold flash and reset I think was the key. It magically began communicating again. FUSSY little board.

I saw in your upload speed there's a 9600 choice. How did you make it? I want to add a 9600 baud choice to NodeMCU1.0(ESP12-E Module), but I don't know where I kann modify it.

Thanks for all your vids, you are helping me to understand the IoT. When I try upload a sketch from the Arduino IDE I get an error: "write timeout - board does not exist or your board is not connected to nodemcu". I have added the additional boards manager, selected the correct board, selected the port and checked the speeds are as recommended. The board shows up in serial monitor and displays boot mode, waiting for host. Can't figure out what I'm missing here, do I need to push or hold a button on the node mcu or something? I've tried different ports and USB cables with no luck.

espcomm_upload_mem failed
Can you explain this error in NodeMCU ESP8266.

I am getting the following error: could not open port 'COM3': PermissionError(13, 'A device attached to the system is not functioning.', None, 31)" whenever I try to upload to the nodemcu. Resetting did not work, and I also cannot open the serial monitor. When I try, I get "Error opening serial port 'COM3'. (Port busy)". Could this be due to faulty drivers? Which ones do you use?

I have an issue. Port settings are greyed out for me. I've installed the CH340G drivers and the CP210x drivers. I also have slightly different settings available, for insance I can find the memory option you had with "SPIFS" or whatever it was.

Thanks if anyone can help (I'm using the 1.8 Arduino ide)
