When u click the "Add Modifier" u can also start directly typing to search any modifier you want to add, and I absolutely love it.

It's actually a good move if they intend to add more modifiers in future versions. Having a massive list could end up looking pretty cluttered, it probably will never.

It feels like it was just yesterday that Blender 3.0 was released, but time flies so fast, really close to the release of version 4.0!!! 🤩🤩🤩

I think what would make the new modifiers list much better is if there were a way to have a customized favorites list that shows up at the top. Some modifiers just tend to get used a lot more than others; if one fits your particular work style better it would make things much easier and faster to just have the ones you like to work with on speed dial. Then it's only for the edge cases that you would dive into the menus or use the search function.

That is a lot of Work. I can not remember Autodesk giving out so many new features in years. Blender is the future.

I like the new folder system for modifiers, i remember as a new blender user being so intimidated by that wall of modifiers, and even now as someone with many years of blender under my belt it takes me way longer than I'd like to admit to find modifiers most of the time

Im for the change with the modifier I never liked to giant window showing every single modifier. Having them categorized in separate dropdown is much cleaner imo and it helps with 'muscle' memory.

While removing the search button from the add modifier/add node is very slick, it also hides that you can search those menus. I *really* hope they add it back and allow it to be turned off as a setting, to not alienate new users.

It should still allow searching by typing as default, making the search option just there for information. It could even be used as a teaching tool by having it inform you that you don't need to click it to search.

As an example for *why* it's necessary. @askNK didn't realise you can search the modifiers panel add drop-down, nor is it possible to spot their error while watching the video. You have to *know* it's searchable which you can only discover through documentation, tutorials, or accidentally hitting a button.

About the Add modifier button:
The previous design, while it was easy and quick, it is not sustainable, as more and more modifiers will be added (Including user made ones) in the future, and every one of them will be ported to geometry nodes. So, the change fixes that, which is good.
However, it is way too early for this change, as none of that work has been done yet. Currently, the change only adds an extra click with no benefit whatsoever.

Still, Quick favourites work! Just add your favourite modifiers to the quick favourites menu and you'll get your one click option.

The new modifiers button is probably the way that it is because they are going to add other categories and new modifiers, so it would make sense to categorize them so that it is easier to find them grouped in the future. But the classic panel was actually really useful for people who are already used to that workflow. I personally think they should add a "classics" submenu to the Add Modifier button or something like that, which displays the old modifier menu. Or instead they could add a "show all" button, because if you notice, the modifiers have also the "modify, generate, deform, physics" categories on the top of the old menu. I'm just a bit bothered about having my muscle memory tampered with tbh... but the update makes a lot of sense, because they are preventing the menu from getting absurdly cluttered.

I'm definitely for the modifier menu change because now I just have to remember the name of the modifier and type the first few characters. I always struggled with finding one of 100 modifiers in this huge mono color dropdown anyway, despite using blender for 3 freaking years, I still hesitate when I have to find bloody solidify. Typing is so much better.

What we need for the modifiers panel is SEARCH!! This would save me SO much time!!

Why is this version called 4.0 and not Blender 3.7? it's a step in the right direction but it only offers minor improvements, nothing groundbreaking... meanwhile Unreal Engine's nanite and lumen make EEVEE look like an ancient artifact...

- why is adaptive subdivision still an experimental feature? eating up all the V-RAM in the simplest use cases?
- why is micro displacement not supported in EEVEE?
- why doesn't EEVEE support global illumination?
- why do I have to go on vacation every time I render a scene that has Volumetrics with cycles?

Tackle just one of these issues and you can easily call it Blender 4.0

(also what happened to blender apps? it was mentioned once and then everyone forgot about it)

Thank you so much for such a comprehensive and perfect breakdown of new Blender changes and improvements. So much helpful information and data that made me so excited for the complete Blender 4.0 version and migrating from 3.6.4 to 4.0 in near future 👍

The "unsaved" marker at the top will absolutely save me someday. I've gotten into the habit of saving instantly after starting a project but I've still had many times where I've done 3 hours of work and blender crashes and I didn't save at all. It's kind of annoying that they don't have autosave default to your temp folder for unsaved projects and just make it unsaved 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 then 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 for another file

the modifier menu is an upgrade imo, I was tired of playing where's waldo to try to find the modifiers I don't use often, felt outdated. also if new modifiers get added, the old menu would get cluttered real quick, so it's a nice proactive long term solution.

also bone collections, yes please.

I'm for it. It sounds like they're planning for people to have a lot of Geometry nodes custom modifiers in their mesh setups
