Activists with the Extinction Rebellion movement blocked a major route into downtown Edmonton Monday morning as part of a series of international protests demanding new climate policies — and drivers were not impressed.

Tensions ran high at the Walterdale Bridge, where angry commuters confronted climate change protesters and Edmonton police officers trying to keep the peace. Kendra Slugoski brought us this update.

The local chapter of the movement said it would be using “non-violent direct action to prevent catastrophic climate and ecological breakdown” by peacefully blocking the Walterdale Bridge during the Monday commute, starting at 7 a.m.

The police are standing there and getting paid while these working tax paying citizens can't get through to feed a family.

This is where the cops just need to leave and let the citizens clean this one up.

Why are the police not doing their job???? Could it be they have instructions from Justine himself?

Maybe the police did us all a favor. This ensures this evil movement is hated.

Who can afford to protest? The privilege and entitlement of these protesters is disgusting.

I heard their message loud and clear. I will not take any action to join or support any environment activities forever...

I’m a college student, and more than half of my class that morning was late because of the protest. I can only imagine how bad it would’ve been for people trying to get to work.

The irony of being the cause of idle cars. Hmm 🤔 not sure these environmentalists thought this one through, if anything.. they left a negative impression, and the message they were attempting to convey was lost in the midst of frustrating commuters who were trying to keep their jobs. Well done 👍🏻

The cops f*cked up with this one. Protesters should have been arrested.

They better be charged for eco terrorism, it's a crime, people can die for not making it to hospital on time

Got the police escorting these protesters. While beating and trampling anti mandate protests. Wow. Double standard
