We've already contributed so much, this is really about damage control at this point. There will still be a crisis even if all emissions were to stop tomorrow, but the severity of it can still be increased drastically. Never in our Earth's history has the CO2 levels (in parts per million) been so high, and that's just _one_ greenhouse gas (others, like methane, are much worse). Prepare for more extreme weather. If you don't believe emitting GHG's does anything to the climate, just take a a look at Venus. That should tell you all you need to know.
