Business fights climate change | DW Documentary

Whether it's flying, driving, eating meat or using consumer goods: Everyone produces CO2 emissions each day. Businessman Dirk Gratzel has calculated his carbon footprint to date. He aims to erase it fully by the end of his lifetime.

Dirk Gratzel only eats meat when he has hunted and killed the animal himself. He makes his morning shower as brief as possible. A new phone every year? Not for him.

Gratzel has worked out the biggest sources of CO2 emissions in our daily lives and has cut these as much as he can for him and his family. He's pleased with the result and says the reductions do not impact on his quality of life.

Now he's taking it a step further. The businessman has bought an industrial site and is carrying out an environmental assessment. Of course, not everyone has the money to do that.

What is the point of a video that points out that 95% of us are never in a position to eat healthy because we can't go deer hunting in the middle of a city with millions of people blocking our shot? Or that the hunting licenses are so few you can't get one?

According to the Vostok Ice Core Records, CO2 reacts to global temperature at an 800-year-lag, not the other way around. This translates to our current CO2 levels being a result of the Medieval Warm Period (approximately 1200 CE). Reducing our CO2 emissions is not going to have an effect on Climate Change, a natural global cycle that cannot be stopped. Charging taxes and asking for funding to fight something unstoppable, something that is not our fault, is a con that uses guilt to persuade the majority of people who are too busy to research every claim our bureaucrats make.
