What links 80-year-old Sue Parfitt and 20-year-old Carla Rochel? Both are committed to taking action on climate change.

Eighty-year-old Sue Parfitt from Britain no longer understands the world. Because of climate change, she says, her grandchildren's existence is threatened - and nobody seems to really care. So she’s decided to take the initiative: Together with other environmental activists, she blocks oil shipments, and her actions land her in court. Meanwhile in Germany, 20-year-old Carla Rochel's protest movement calls itself the "Last Generation" that will be able to avert a climate catastrophe. They too block ports, airports and highways, sticking themselves to roads using superglue. The threat of jail doesn’t deter them either. They want the German government to act fast on more climate protection measures. The two women show that alarm over our changing climate is something that transcends generations. A report by Birgit Maass and Leonie von Hammerstein.

Protesting is an important right (and necessity!) in a democratic society and it can't be made illegal because some people feel inconvenience due to protests.
On the other hand, these small, fragmented protests will not work. They need to be massive, well organised and persistent. The focus should be on getting the ignorant people on our side and the pressuring of he government. Blocking a couple of highways doesn't help, unfortunately.

Thank you Sue, I wish your whole generation was like you.

If everyone decided to have others abide by their beliefs, their own rules and what they live for, this world would be a hell to live in. Radicalism isn't right. There are other ways. Forcing your beliefs down the throat of others will never work. We live in society, not in the jungle.

People who don't have jobs blocking people from getting to work that do. If that's not the definition of insanity I don't know what is.

Yes let's arrest a harmless 80-year old woman trying to save the planet. 🤦

Big money is needed for the successful transition from fossil fuels to carbon-free energy. But the cardinal errors, which can be called 'crimes', are committed on both sides, making the transition even longer to complete. On one side, the profits from oil and gas companies should be entirely re-invested in clean technologies like wind and solar, plus, there should be enormous government matching contributions to do so as quickly as possible. (but CEOs and leaders of oil and gas companies just enjoy their profits). And on the other hand, the protesters are aiming to interrupt the old type of energy flow, making the ambitious goals even harder to achieve. You people think that you can fly an airplane on water. This is a scandalous behavior on both sides! This is nothing even close to the cooperation and joint effort needed for the enormous task.

While I think that protests that annoy ordinary people is bad, I also don't like to think about the future we're heading towards.

Nobody talks about how the earth poles shifting is effecting the environment. Can we do better… absolutely but this is a huge factor that is completely ignored.

I believe numerous giga food factories with robots harvesting them in each country is a realistic possibility in the next 20 years.

I agree that we need to gradually cut down the use of fossil fuels. But I don't understand why they think gluing themselves to the pavement would speed up the process of phasing out fossil fuels. Realistically, how big of an impact does such a protest have? I know it is an impossible question to answer, but I fail to see how such a solution would help at all.
My counter: help with getting sustainable solutions to outperform fossil fuels and the problem will solve itself. win-win

I think all of them are very brave! This definitely keeps the debate alive.
However I believe that we should focus on technology and how we can utilize it to make food production more environmentally friendly and efficient. Ultimately only this will ensure that food is affordable on an environmentally shaken planet.

given the titles of the videos, it’s pretty easy to see the hard-left bias of this channel.
