Shame you didn't turn on the action cams and filmed while shaking!

I lost my GoPro 11 while wake surfing due to a weak 3rd party mount. The thumbscrew did it's job, but the mount itself failed... Will probably switch to DJI or AcePro now!

This was fun but I would be much more interested to see how well those "magnetic" clip mounts would take a hit from an angle that stresses those clips more, yes those kettlebells are a lot of weight but what happens if that weight isn't applied at a perfect straight angle where the mount is at it's strongest.

That’s a new shirt logo for you.
“They’re not magnets!!”

Great video - I was on the fence, but you convinced me to buy a kettlebell - seems like a great workout!

First off, if you don't securely lock the magnetic mount, of course it'll probably come loose or fall off. But that can be applied to anything... if you don't screw something in properly... etc. I do mountain biking, pretty technical, gnarly stuff with lots of crashing, rough trails, etc. I've NEVER had my Osmo magnetic mount fail on me. Even in any hard crash where I'm tumbling everywhere, bike is destroyed, etc, the camera stay in place.

The magnetic aspect of the mount is "not" just purely to align it. Try applying the mount and hold the clips on either side open and let it dangle purely by the magnet. It stays in place pretty well, even with a few shakes. Now, this isn't to say the magnet alone is enough but rather, the point is, the magnet is pretty strong and is more than just a means to align it.

Finally, comparing a screw based system over a small magnet system is just silly. I mean, it should be plainly obvious that screws are far stronger to magnets. So is the gopro mounting system superior in terms of toughness? I would think so. But personally, the magnet system is far more versatile and is strong enough to tackle most scenarios. Thus I'd choose it over GoPro's.

I can't believe a comparison video need to be made about this topic. It just common sense, magnet alone is not strong enough to hold + there is a clicking sound when it locks. Obviously there is some sort of hooking mechanism to go along with the magnets. Some people are just du....b

After owning many GoPro’s (11 last one) I bought an Ace Pro. It pulled me in like a magnet, and now I’m hooked 😂. I agree, GoPro must do something, they have been asleep for a year. Time to wake up otherwise they will loose the market very quickly.

This proved very little. What's going to knock it off is a shear force. For instance I've played in big ocean waves and have been drug across the ocean floor. What happens when the camera gets drug on the floor or if you fell while water skiing?

All the best for 2024, Dave. Thank you for being kind and the great content. ❤ see you in the new year.

Unless I missed it I think you forgot to test the GOPro with the heavier weight. Also, I have been using GoPros since the Hero 3. I started to leave GoPro platform when the iInsat360 x3 came out as I liked it much better than my GoPRo Max. Not to mention how much better the editing software was. And now with the Ace Pro which I have been using for several weeks now and I love I am getting rid of my remaining flat lense GOPros and moving 100 percent to the Insta360 platform. I really think between Insta360 and DJI, GOPro is in a lot of trouble. Their financials and profit margins have been dropping steadily for several years already anyway. People keep asking if the Ace Pro or Osmo are GoPro killers. In my opinion GOPro is its own worse enemy and has been committing self suicide for years now. Just my opinion though and I am sure many will disagree which is fine. People should buy whichever they like best. GOPro still has a lot of positive attributes . And both Osmo and Insta360 certainly have several issues that need to be addressed by them (and I believe they will in future releases). There is no such thing as the perfect camera. Just personal preference I suppose.. .

Are the mounts metal. My usage I break the plastic ones

I wonder how well those hooks hold up when getting wiped out by a wave. Are they plastic?

DJI's best invention yet is the magnetic mount, so easy and trouble free mount. I have around 4 places where I use my Action 4 and since Action 3 the hassle was gone.

Thanks for the test. Next one: How is the image stabilization doing with the saw? 😅

Most thorough mount test ever. Awesome!

Hitting the pole with action camera attach in the water. To see if it holds when exposed with water. It wouldn’t brake the cameras. At different angles and not just up and down shakes.

From a mounting perspective I propose a shock/impact test. Imagine a kayaker with a top helmet mount. The boat flips and the camera hits a rock. The kayaker rolls upright. Is the camera still there or at the bottom of the river? Speaking from a real-life experience. Another test would be a skier/boarder with a helmet or chest mount. Would a crash cause the mount to fail due to impact?

So, I lost a camera on one of the magnetic mounts. They're quicker to mount, but unforgiving if you don't get it perfectly locked on. Riding a naked motorcycle the wind will rip the camera off if it's not completely locked on. I ended up ordering a dive case that I plan to modify once I get, but until then my replacement camera is zip tied in place. And this isn't me blaming the mount, if you get it right it's plenty strong, but if you make a mistake like I did, goodbye camera.
