I am Dr Chen Yiming.
I’ll be talking about Male pattern hair loss ( androgenetic alopecia) . In a normal healthy head of hair, the follicles on our scalp can be in three phases.
1) The anagen phase is known as the growth phase.
About 80% of our hair should be in this phase and it lasts a good 3-5 years. The hair is receiving good nourishment from our blood circulation and is constantly growing.
2) The catagen phase - otherwise known as the transition phase.
Only a small amount of hair are in this phase. This is a short 2 weeks transition stage where the hair is detaching from the follicle and the blood supply and the growth of the hair stops.
3) The Telogen phase - about 20% of our hair is at this stage and it can last for about 2-3 months. This is the phase where the old hair drops off and new hair starts to grow.

The male hormone that is responsible for causing hair loss is Testosterone. Testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone by an enzyme called 5a-reductase within our body.
This Dihydrotestosterone ( DHT for short ) will bind to the hair follicles and cause
1) accelerated conversion from anagen phase to telogen phase - meaning more hair fall and lesser hair growth
2) Over time, it will also cause the hair follicles to shrink in size and as a result, the hair becomes thinner and finer
3) Finally, the hair follicle will close up and stop producing anymore hair.

The longer this process is allowed to continue - the more irreversible the condition becomes.
So treatment has to start as soon as you notice increased hair thinning.
So who are at risk of Male pattern hair loss
1) Family history : If we have a close relative with male pattern hair loss, for example our uncle or father, then our risk of suffering from it is higher
2) Age plays a part: the older we get, the higher the chance.

One that is commonly used is the Norwood Hamilton scale. We use this scale to help identify which stage our patient is at and it also shows the severity of the condition.
In stage 1, there is mild recession of the frontal hairline
From stage 4 onwards, there is also balding seen at the top of the head, an area we call the vertex.
At stage 6 and beyond, the frontal recession will meet with vertex hair loss. Stage 7 is the worst where the patient will lose all his hair at the crown.

What are the treatment options to reverse this?
I would subdivide them into
1) Topical application
2) Oral medications
3) Treatments

The only proven topical application that helps will be minoxidil spray.
The exact mechanism of Minoxidil is not determined yet but animal studies found that it could potentially shorten the dying phase of hair follicles and prolong the growth phase. It has also been shown to increase the size of follicles. It can potentially improve hair growth in men over 6 months following which they have to use it for the long run. It can occasionally cause temporary hair loss for the first 2-3 months and sometimes scalp irritation and itch.

The Oral medication that we often prescribe is finasteride - the brand name is propecia. Propecia is only licensed for use in men.
What it does is that it blocks the conversion of testosterone into DHT and in doing so, prevents the premature thinning of hair and premature closure of follicles. It is a very very effective treatment but there are some side effects to taking this medication, so please have a detail consultation with your doctor.
Some of the treatments that may be used in conjunction with minoxidil and propecia are
1) Lasers
Firstly , low level laser therapy has been extensively studied. This low energy red or almost infra red light can be applied on the scalp daily and that has been proven to be a very safe method in stimulating hair growth.
In recent studies, there are also exploration into using semi ablative fractional lasers in the treatment of male pattern hair loss.
2) Hair transplantation.
The most invasive treatment of all would be hair transplants.
When all else fails, patients may wish to consider this surgical approach. Newer methods of treatment that are being evaluated including PRP and Engineered growth factor injections.

I remember when I experienced hairfall, I did all the following to effectively reduce it -
.. Incorporate hot oil scalp massages into your routine.
.. Avoid hot water when washing your hair.
.. Shield your hair from excessive sweat.
.. Use a wide-toothed neem comb to brush out wet hair.
.. Decrease your sugar and unhealthy food intake.
.. Use gentle anti hair fall shampoo and hair oil like Littleeextra cocconion.
.. Nurture a positive mindset for overall well-being.

Zinc B12 Vitamin D and C is the key if you're not already too far gone. This doesnt apply to everyone but a lot of people lose their hair because their body loses the ability to process those 4 vitamins the older they get. First thing to do is check if you have a fatty liver or worse. If youre liver is bad then it can't utilize those vitamins. Zinc neutralizes the downsides of DHT. B12 is tied with protein, and D promotes new growth. Try figuring out if you have issues with what I listed first before going on minox or fin.

I have been using amy grow herbal hair oil for 2 weeks now. I see small new hair growth. It is not oily and I can put it right after washing my hair when it is still a little wet. My hair looks shinier and has volume. It does not look oily. Seeing new hair growth I am feeling very excited and hopeful.

Let me share you my secret here, trust me your hair will grow back if you do as i say, i have been diagnosed with alopecia at 23 I’m now 25 my scalp was very visible that I always use caps and hats, ok let’s go straight to the point.

1. Never use hot water on your scalp even in winter try a lukewarm wash, finish with cold water.

2. Use ginger shampoo 🧴, gently wash your hair, never use bar soaps or shower gels, i will recommend ginger shampoos or olive shampoos.

3.use a hair dryer to blow your hair after shower on a normal temperature, don’t use it on a hot temperature.
4. Apply minoxidil 5% for men, 2% for women, immediately after you dry your hair in the receding areas leave till absorbed five-ten minutes.

5. Get a beard oil, almond or castor oil apply on your scalp massage it till it feel touchy on your scalp, women should apply castor or almond oil.

6. Skip a day washing your hair at least wash 3 times a week, keep applying minoxidil even if your hair isn’t washed.

7. Increase vitamin and protein intake especially boiled eggs.

8.Trust the process.

I remember those days i come to visit YouTube for hours trying to figure out my situation and i see some people telling their secrets of how they did it, !i tried bunch alotta of things and some never worked but with all these tips above i hope you will come one day to bless me. I am willing to help you.

You are wrong. DHT is not causing baldness.

DHT is a response to the inflammation within the scalp which aids in the miniaturization of hairs thus balding.

Real reason for this is scalp tension and blood flow being cut off.

The cause of the tension is due to stress which builds up in the neck muscles and facial tissues and overtime pulls the Galea Apuneurotica tighter and tighter on the scalp via the connective muscle tissues.

If your head itches, head feels mild burn when touching then you have mild inflammation.

Get a steel graston blade, percussive gun, jade stone or one of them and massive your facial muscles and your scalp.

Unfortunately if you really want this to relieve the tension then you have to grind it out. If you feel a high burn using the graston steel blade on your scalp, you have discovered the sweet spot where a big tension knot has formed. If you scrape it out, it will hurt but afterwords you’ll feel a lot better and your head will feel different and your scalp will feel looser. Also your TMJ muscle, that is really sore from chewing. Muscles around the orbital bones and high brow too are tight.

Don’t believe me, do this and if you really work out that stress in your face, scalp and neck, you’ll feel a rush in your head from all the blood flowing back into your scalp and it will be different. Healing will occur and hair will grow back. If severe scaring has occurred maybe results will be limited.

If you really scrape hard to breakdown the tension knots, your skin will red up due to internal bleeding from breaking down the scar tissue. You need to break it down if you want to eliminate the tension.

Stress that causes neck and facial tension, causes the muscles that connect the Galea to the skull.

Don’t believe me. Do it and you’ll be proven wrong. Painful process but how badly do you want your hair back. Good luck mates.

Don’t listen to people claiming testosterone being the culprit. It’s a reaction to the process which aids the balding, not the primary cause.

Correlation abetting secondary causation, not solely casual.

Ultimately manage stress, get out and enjoy life and get massages to reduce stress in your life.

If the hair fall is due to the vit d deficiency then it will grow back .if your hair is not growing back then get plasma therapy done or use regular minoxidil and derma roll with 0.5 or 0.75. its necessary that you maintain vit d above 60 ng .If you start taking vitamine d and stop once the levels reach normal then its not gonna work . Blood level of vitamin d always differs from tissue level, so never abruptly stop and always be on a maintenance dose of 1-5 k iu per day also combine
vit k2 Mk-7 and magnesium glycinate as all these vitamins work together . Hair fall can occur due to inflammation, vitamin B12, C, Iron, zinc deficiency . So always get blood work done to know if nutritional deficiencies are the reason .
