As their parents sit and watch tv and Netflix all day instead of doing stuff with their kids.

So we can't be addicted to video games and yet adults are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Explain the logic behind that.

It happens every year. They’re losing money because people don’t sit watching TV all day, and they like to lash out at the most popular thing, which is video games.

I was definitely that student that used video games as an escape from other problems. Had to admit to myself I needed help to get out of the hole I was in. I'm in a much better place and have a healthier relationship with video games, but yeah it was a scary place for sure

Video games can also be a passion. 70 years ago people were criticized for playing basketball, football, and baseball when they could be doing something "more productive" with their lives like becoming a factory worker or signing up for a war. Encourage people to diversify their lives and develop new interests, but don't treat gaming like methamphetamine or cocaine or eternally some child's chew toy or pacifier, because that entirely misses the point.

*The reality of the rich and the poor is this: the rich invest their money and spend what is left. The poor spend their money and invest what is left"*

Ah, because starting literal riots over a bunch of sports teams you watch when they lose, whilst drinking alcohol, smoking and eating junk food is such an adult thing to do xD

My neighbors might be addicted gamers. I hear it through the common wall; it's pretty loud. They are married adults with no children.

the big problem is the loot boxes and other predatory gaming practices used to completely manipulate dopamine receptors in vulnerable kids. There should be some regulation around this. However, gaming is an amazing thing that can bring people together and now more than ever you can make a career involved with video games. China did too much, but we do too little

Mmmm yes every since I played Animal Crossing and Tom Nook graced me with his beautiful stripes I’ve been hooked. Now I play animal crossing while I poop, while I pee, while I eat, even while I sleep. I even play it during horizontal tango. Tom Nook is husbando, Tom Nook is senpai. Tom Nook is love, Tom Nook is life

Many people around the world are engaged in (video) gaming and gambling behaviours, which are recognized as addictive behaviours, but usually do not result in any significant health consequences. However, a small proportion of people engaged in such behaviours may develop disorders due to addictive behaviours associated with functional impairment or distress.

Video gaming is highly prevalent in modern culture, particularly among young people, and a healthy hobby for most users. However, in recent years there has been increasing global recognition among public health professionals and academics that particular patterns of video gaming may lead to marked impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning and psychological distress for a significant minority of players. People who partake in gaming should be alert to the amount of time they spend on gaming activities, particularly when it is to the exclusion of other daily activities, as well as to any changes in their physical or psychological health and social functioning that could be attributed to their pattern of gaming behaviour.

Gambling in many countries and jurisdictions is considered a form of entertainment, characterized by betting/wagering mechanics and monetization features. Like gaming, repetitive gambling behaviour can potentially lead to gambling disorder associated with distress or impairment.

In recent years, there has been an increasing convergence between gaming and gambling on various platforms, significantly aided by the Internet. This convergence may give rise to migration from games to gambling and co- occurrence of the two disorders.

Video Games are not evil, but I know what it is like to abuse the privilege of playing video games. It's definitely more of a me problem than actual video games. I think if parents aren't involved enough with their child's life, addiction can be set in.

Hello friends! I missed out on playing games in my youth and then got my first system around 2004. I got a classic Nintendo, a Gameboy adapter and then moved onto a playstation 1 and 2. Perhaps I am normal? I played some games and look back on them fondly. My message is that... I had to catch up on what I considered health normal childhood things and would be very sad to see others' miss their childhood's too. Today, I have kids and we have enjoyed countless hours of gaming together. I am disabled so it was all I could do. They both have good grades and I managed their play by keeping things/ game parties mostly to weekends and rewards between lessons. We were offline though.
