Andrew D. Huberman is an American neuroscientist and associate professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine who has made many contributions to the brain development, brain plasticity, and neural regeneration and repair fields. Much of his work is focused on the visual system, including the mechanisms controlling light-mediated activation of the circadian and autonomic arousal centers in the brain, as well as brain control over conscious vision or sight.

Huberman has been credited with coining the term "Non-Sleep Deep Rest" (NSDR), referring to practices that place the brain and body into shallow sleep to accelerate neuroplasticity and help offset mental and physical fatigue.

“Addiction is a progressive narrowing of the things that bring you pleasure.” This is the explanation I've been looking for.

My father was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder, games is the only way I cope with that problem because dealing with my father wasn’t easy. Shut myself in room and play games all day. Wore glasses since 10 years old. Now I get bored playing games, read books 1 hour a day, working out etc. Games is a way I cope with my problems back then

I can personally attest to this. Happened to me.

Folks, video games, or any entertainment, is fine, *_in moderation_*

He is speaking facts.. I got into video games my Junior year in college and saw my scores go down, I remember I actually called in sick because I was in a tournament on Xbox and that day my client bought 7 Trucks for his business and was looking for me. Fast forward to now, I graduated college thank God, own my own business, and when I have EXTRA time left I play 1 hour tops. If you feel like you are debating if you are addicted to games… YOU ARE folks.
Goodluck 💪🏽

Just replace videogames with every other addiction, and he is 99% right.

This can happen with anything, not just video games. Anything when done excessively can have disastrous results, watching TV, using the Internet, reading books, exercising, etc. Absolutely anything can be addictive and detrimental if you do too much of it.

been a game addict for 20+ years (and at different times of my life), what this guy says may sound extreme (because it has suicide in it) but it is generally true. The only thing he fails to mention is that you may not lose interest in everything but the sheer amount of energy both mentally and physically that you lose because you play so much is what really leads to depression. You waste so much time and energy and you prioritize gaming so much that your life becomes meaningless-you are just playing the same hamster wheel 24/7 stuck in the same narrative all the time. This may also be very similar to overworking and how burnouts happen. So you feel like a mindless robot that plays not necessarily out of will but you got nothing else better. You start out voluntarily but you are stuck in a movie that consumes the life out of you and it repeats like the Ground Hog day movie. Once you cannot do stuffs that would make your life better, you find yourself completely powerless. I don't care what anyone else says, it's as bad as addictive drugs for many people.

I know a 3 y.o. who's addicted to his iPad. Can't get to sleep without it.
Lookout world, he and his cohort of apple addicts are ascendant.

I play videogames to escape the dread of existing in this dying world. I'm not even sure if I enjoy it that much, but it's still better.

Sadly for me, video games were the escape from my family mental abuse and torture. It got me through some nasty times. Now with my kids i play the same video games as I watch them grow up and it is awsome.

This guy gets dopamine rush from talking about dopamine. His field of vision has narrowed to only conversations about dopamine release, and he's been spiraling out of control ever since.
