& this is why it’s ok to be selfish & NOT help people out, especially if it might mess up your credit. Family or not

Her aunt did her a favor and she ruined her credit by not paying 5 months of car payment...At least be honest with her and tell her you can't afford it! No good deed goes unpunished!

When Judge Judy said "...They (the bank) don't care. They care about getting their money for the car" I felt that. Sad & sobering.

If she had bad credit she already had a history of not making payments.

Never EVER loan or co-sign funds unless you can afford to eat that debt. Period.

Missing ONE payment can mess up your credit for years. Having one "30 days past due" will destroy your ability to get any type of credit at a decent rate for at least 7 years. She should have told her aunt immediately when she couldn't pay, her aunt could have paid and avoided the strikes to her credit. What a nightmare. I think the niece has NO IDEA how badly she screwed up. She knew what was due and when. Such a sad situation all around.

This is reason 100 why you never loan money or let someone play with your credit

When I was 19 I had a full time job earning very good wages for my age. I wanted a new car and asked my mom to co-sign, even though my credit was actually pretty good, banks were only offering outrageous interest rates because I’d never had a car loan. I was very responsible and had my own place, even paid my moms bills without her asking me to. She said no to the co-sign. I got a capital one blank check and the interest rate was 29%. I refinanced after a year and the interest rate dropped to 9%, I had a 5yr loan and paid it off after 3 years. I have never had a high interest rate on a car since then or been denied a car loan, my last 2 cars had 0.9% interest rates. I would never co-sign on anyone’s car loan, no one did it for me and I’m not doing it for anyone else.

When it comes to relatives or friends, never loan money never cosign for anything. Give them money if you like, never expect anything in return.

1:09 Auntie should have know better to risk her credit with someone who starts sentences with "what happened was". 25+ years of living in the hood and ive learned not to be liable for anyone who start sentences with "what happened was, what im saying is" or they end sentences with "like i said, you heard, you feel me, you know what im saying"

"They" care. I bought a brand-new car and made payments on time. I became deathly ill about 1.5 yrs after getting the car. GMC Financial worked with me. I can't remember everything that was done because this was 10yrs ago, but they made my car pmt look current on my credit report.
So, JJ is wrong, they do care. Because "they" don't want the hassle of repo'ing and having to take a loss on their money. They don't want that car, they only want their money back, with interest.
ANYTIME you are abt to be late, call your finance company and work it out, they won't turn you away. Unless of course, it's a buy here, pay here then you're screwed.

She had $1, 400 at her disposal to get the car out, but couldn't afford $200 monthly payments?

So here is a question. Why didn't she just get a junk car for $2000? Why did she need a fancy car?

Happy Friday JJ crew! And long weekend for those of us who have one 🎉

I love my niece but no, I wouldn't trust her with my credit. I'd help her buy an older model before I'd risk my own credit rating on a newer model.

Oooof I agree with JJ. It's silly to sign off on a loan for someone that has either no established credit or bad credit. If you don't have credit, there are things you can do to build it. In the mean time, save up hard cash and pay for a car like that.
