I’ll be honest here, had George Lucas not said no, we wouldn’t have had all these iconic themes or sound effects thanks to Ben Burtt and John Williams.

Star Wars ain't the same without the music

Well technically it’s not false, there’s no sound in Star Wars space either, the characters in universe don’t hear sound. But at the end of the day, the audience is not in space and Star Wars is, according to the phrase « A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away », a retelling of a certain past, adapted, which totally justifies the addition of sound and music.
If we use that barebone logic, no movie should have a OST, there’s no music playing in real life when something happens…

No, you misunderstand. All of the pilots in Star Wars are wearing earbuds that play cool sound effects whenever engaged in space combat.

“It’s not scientifically accurate” there are space samurai wizards with telepathy I don’t think Star Wars relies on scientific accuracy for a backbone

Reminds me of that conversation about a scene in LoTR.
"Where's the light coming from?"
"Same place as the music"
And I thought that's a great way to look at sound in space too.

Just imagine the space battles without the sound

This is why Star Wars should be classified as science fantasy. Love this genre.

Well it would be pretty boring to watch if there was no sound. There also isn’t fire or explosions in space.

Nothing is actually scientifically correct in Star Wars, but that's the charm of it. People need to understand that Sci-Fi isn't just scientific fiction but also fictive science.

How does Ben Burtt know what physics is like “in a galaxy far, far away?”

This reminds me of something from the Jurassic Park novel.
A criticism of Zoos that they they modify the existing nature to create a habitat that is "more real" than the real-thing, despite it being artificial. The audience is willing to accept it, because the audience is okay with the illusion.

The same here; we know that sound can't travel through space. But you couldn't have these epic space-battles without the sound-effects nor the music. The majority of the audience is willing to accept the illusion, and it's only those phony, armchair intellectuals who criticize ever minute detail for being wrong who are missing out.

If the thumbnail is young George Lucas I feel like grant Gustin or Brenton thwaites could play him in a bio pic

Cause that George was like “we’re going to make this a cinematic experience”.

if they didn't have sound in space in Star Wars then we wouldn't have gotten the sound of the seismic charge

You know sound doesn't travel in space because there is no air to carry it but theoretically other gases could cause sound to travel through space, maybe gases trapped in their energy shields and gravitational fields, so the sound could be explained by that or maybe sound can be carried by the force and sense the force is everywhere maybe that's why you hear sound in space

"There's no sound in space, George."

"There are also no laser sword wielding space wizards there either, so what's your point?"

Now I wonder what farts would sound like in Star Wars space.

There is no underwear in space but there's sound and music in space.

I probably would have been like “Ah yes our film with FTL travel, laser swords wielded by samurai space wizards in a world where every planet seems to have the same gravity and maybe day-night cycle. But sound in space is where we draw the line, yes.”
