Long before I owned my home my uncle said my grandmother loved when her yard was edged (I was oblivious)...so weeks before she died he did that for her.
25 years ago, I bought a similar tool from Sears, but instead of being half-moon shaped, mine is flat and serrated. It came with a "finger" protrusion that's very helpful for digging out the clumps of grass, especially next to the sidewalk and driveway. My sweet, wonderful dad sharpened it about 5 years ago, painted it and made a wood sheath to protect the blade. I haven't used it much since my tool tender isn't around anymore. I'll have to get it out and think of him while edging.

I keep a 12” border between flowerbeds and lawn. I trim edges with edger every other time I mow. Looks crisp and neat! 😊❤️

I remember my Great Uncle doing this using the same similar tool to our farms lawns and that was probably 55 years ago. I loved watching him and I would clean up the edgings (I was very young, but still remember vividly). Thanks for sharing!

Years ago I watched a ton of videos on how to edge this way. One of the videos was by an old fellow in the UK. Then he did talk about how he maintained some of it with a hand tool somewhat like your thumbnail. I was so inspired by the pride he took in that crisp edge.

Hi Laura, just want to say that's the way my mom taught me how to use the pole edger. My dad later showed me how to use an electric edger later on. Great video on edging.
