And this my friends is how you DO NOT water plants in Leca.

You need to have a reservoir pot (pot with no holes at the bottom of it) that holds the nutrient water and a inner pot (which has holes in the bottom). The leca and plant sit inside the inner pot.

Then, this is how you're supposed to water....

1. There should be a fill line (a line you've drawn in the reservoir pot) where the nutrient water goes to. Or you can have one of those water indicators that tell you when you need to refil.

2. If you have the fill line in the inner pot. Every week lift the inner pot out and refill to the fill line you've drawn WITH fresh water. NOT nutrient water. Why? Becuase when the nutrient water level goes down the salts and mineral are left behind. That means if you were to fill with nutrient water again you're doubling the nutrients and changing the pH of the water too drastically which will everytually kill the plant.

3. So you keep doing this (fill with fresh water every week) until the end of the month. Then you do 2 things. First, throw out all the nutrient water from the reservoir pot. Wipe the inner sides of it. And fill it with NEW nutrient water to the fill line. Then take your inner pot that holds the plant and wash it under fresh water under a tap. This washes out the salts and precipitates left behind on the leca. You then put the inner pot back into the reservoir pot and repeat the cycle.

Hope that helps...

This looks great and simple-just like soil! I'm a bit confused though-I thought LECA HAD TO have a water reservoir due to the "wicking" it does to bring moisture to the top.
I do like your method better but I thought LECA had to sit in water?

Can I ask why you skipped the grow part in your mixture? Just genuinely curious.

I see a lot of issues with this …. I would never use the same water over again why because what if you have a bug issue your just spreading it what if there’s fungus issues you don’t know about this would also all spread
