“She’s built nothing like most female 800m runners.” Bruh She’s bigger than most male 800m runners too.

When kratochvilova was asked about what it would feel like to have her world record taken away from her she said it would be like a kick in the balls

East German coach had the best reply: "When a rival coach noted with some sarcasm that the voices of many of the East German women were unusually deep -- a telltale sign of the effects of steroid use in females -- an East German coach replied, "We came here to swim, not sing." "

It's well known doing farm chores results in record breaking 800m runners.

Lol Kratochvilova had never run under 53 seconds for the 400m until she was 27 years old. Then, in her late 20s and early 30s, she takes more than 5 seconds of her PB. Nothing suss there.

Strange how all these great Eastern European runners disappeared when random testing started.

I ran few European races as a pacesetter the year after Kratochvilova set her record (interestingly, I was a pacesetter in 1500m and mile races and was usually instructed to run the first 800m SLOWER than her 800m record: organizers wanted 57 + 57 for an 800 in 1:54). I saw her behind the scenes twice and she looked as masculine as she does here (she was far more muscular than I was) but she also SOUNDED masculine. The use of steroids on the Soviet bloc runners was considered an open secret at the time.

My personal hope is for Athing Mu (or any upcoming female talent) to break these controversial records.

Growing up on a farm doesn't give a jawline that puts Thanos to shame.

That dude really smoked the field in the 800 meters.

"Many athletes are naturally built this way." . . . Yeah in the men's grid iron teams

I think Athing Mu has a decent chance to break the 800m record.

It’s funny how the 800m runner is built like a 400m runner. And the 400m runner is built like an 800m runner

My only question is why Marita Koch & Jarmila Kratochvilova, who are still alive and in good shape, are always called out for doping while Florence Griffith, who died at 39 after two as absurd WRs, is always remembered like a goddess.

Flojo was an even more flagrant violation since her vast improvement in musculature and timings was achieved in less than 2 years. Poor old Evelyn Ashford... the natural athlete.

3:58 "Many athletes are naturally built this way." come on now...

That's a powerful build... for a man.
