In the after race interview, Warholm explained that he was really feeling the lactic acid and had to stretch too far over the ninth hurdle, which threw his stride off and caused him to fade badly. He said at this level you aren't allowed to make such mistakes. Dude is human. And it was just Rai's turn to win. His winning time was actually slower than his time in Tokyo when he won the silver. Just goes to show how insanely fast that race in Tokyo was! Congrats to Rai! A well deserved win!!!

Congratulations to Rai Benjamin! The 400m hurdles, both men and women, has been the race to watch for the past 4 years or so.

Warholm looked he lost his step count and had to leap over that 9th hurdle, that cost him a lot of ground and slowed him down going into the 10th so much that I thought dos Santos would catch him for silver. Find the video on line, replay it a few times, and keep your focus on dos Santos; on the view of the backstretch he looks like he's way behind, but he's right there with the Jamaican coming off #7, passes him by #8, and starts gaining on the other two. Excellent race by all three of the "big dogs", and the others getting under 48 sec, too. The only problem I have with this race is its run the day before the 4x400m final so these guys are going to be unavailable for a top-flight performance if needed in that race.

So far i think Sydney is the only person to not disappoint in this Olympics. All the other Best in their field athletes ran far short of their best times. Warholm was almost 2 seconds slower than the last Olympics. The 3 Jamaican women didn’t even compete in the sprinting at all.

After this race i would say that 45.94 is safe, because this generation of hurdlers will not touch Warholms WR, so it will be wery long untill someone breaks the 46 second barrier again, if ever in our lifetime!

I felt for Rasmus Magi. He has made it to so many Finals. A phenomenal athlete. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride. I hope his time will come one day.
