With a hypothetical SMITE 2 not far away, at least according to leaks and rumours. What would it need to truly succeed?

Personally If I lost my skins, smite 2 would be dead on arrival for me. That would be the biggest thing I am concerned about. But the game being on an updated engine and people keeping their skins and progress would be awesome.

I disagree that Smite 2 would need to have some major innovation immediately. I don’t even care if they call if ‘2’ or if they just call it Smite, but they effectively rebuild the game on UE4 or UE5. Smite is in such need of an overhaul from the coding side, that it likely would likely slow down current projects in Smite by a year or more, which is likely why the thing about SPL being cancelled next year has been circulated if it has any truth to it

Not touching any “Smite 2” without my progression carrying over. That’s A LOT of time and money

Thwre is no way in hell that a company would port all of their skins to a new game and not charge for them.

I just want an ongoing narrative. What theyve been doing with the story this year has been amazing and tying in map changes and mechanics around it has been AWESOME.

I don't think we'll ever see Smite 2 if only because cross progression would be a nightmare for Hi-Rez

When I was working on Angels Fall First, the question of "Why don't you just upgrade the engine?" was super frequently asked on our Discord. UE3 is a completely different codebase from UE4/UE5 and would have required a monumental effort to port over all the gameplay. A lot would have to be rebuilt from the ground up. UE4 can at least be 'upgraded' to UE5 but would require a lot less work.

If they were to remove gods/skins, there should be some sort of value/gem transfer/reimbursement. For example, they get rid of Ah Puch and I have 4 skins that have a combined value of 1600 gems; give me 1600 gems in Smite 2 so I can retain the value

You know how much money I’ve put into the game for the years it’s been out. We need the skins to carry over I think that’s what most of us want and not care about our level progression

Honestly the biggest one for me would be your current progression and skins since most of us have spent many years on our profile and this isn’t like COD where it’s sorta okay to restart since it’s just a year and level doesn’t really mean much but This is a decade for some people worth of progression and purchase that would potentially get erased and would be a huge turn off. Id honestly like them to just keep the same smite and just upgrade the engine sorta like fortnite has done. As well as maybe include more game modes or add ranked to current game modes like slash. As well as adding a new gen version of smite for the console side. Both PC and Console are much more powerful now and it’s time for at least at minimum an engine upgrade

I would rather just get a cs2 style engine upgrade

Smite is dying, why would they want to create another one that's probably worse. Also, imagine if your skins didn't transfer lmao.

I think hi Rez should do what Overwatch did with overwatch 2 in terms of transfers and all that. I really just think Smite 2 should just mostly be an engine upgrade and that’s really it. Definitely brand new maps and potentially multiple new gods and maybe even reworks of old ones.

You should be advocating for the player. I sure as hell wouldn’t go to a smite 2 without my skins + progression.

The only non-scummy reason I can imagine for Smite II's existence would be as a way to upgrade the game engine and possibly decrease the number of bugs that pop up every patch.

Personally I think they should transfer the most of the gods. But look at the gods that are too basic compared with the newer release ones. These ones that have fairly basic kits that worked on release but don't have any major outplay potential and skill anymore. And maybe a major rework to how healing or even crit works in the game to make things more balanced if they can

Probably a weird take but voice packs being a separate purchase has always felt kind of scummy to me, it's not game breaking but one team having voice packs and the other team using default voices is a non 0% advantage to the team with voices (assuming the players play enough to know the voices for calls).

Definitely agree on the make MP5/HP5 mp and hp per second, probably a weird MMO-ism holdover from smite originally being based on a Global Agenda match of the day.

Me personally, If there was no skin carry over, that's a hard no for me. I've spent a regrettable amount of money on smite, definitely in the thousands, and even if they shut down smite 1 completely, I wouldn't move to smite 2 without skin carry over. Even on the super tiny chance I did eventually play (probably from casual friends constantly harassing me about it), they'd never get a penny out of me as a result.

I'd be fine waiting 12-24 months for the full roster gods after release as long as when they came out they had all my skins I currently have, with the caveat that there would need to be a big enough roster at launch to keep the game interesting (at least 10-15 gods per 'class').

Great video!

As someone who has shamefully spent $5k on this game. I'd be devastated if I lost the skins.

Honestly as long as I can keep all my stuff from the 1st game then I wouldn't mind a 2nd game
